Job Summary/Description
Provides academic advising and student retention and success services to undergraduate students. Provides information and training to the dean, department chairs, faculty, and support staff.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
- In collaboration with the dean and department heads, designs and monitors student outreach and advising programs and provides advising services to identified categories of students in the College.
- Participates in student orientation, relevant recruitment events, and university advising programs as needed.
- Monitors progress of at-risk students and refers students to appropriate support services.
- Monitors changes in academic policy, the general education core curriculum, and any other relevant policies, processes, and procedures and communicates these changes to the dean, department heads, and faculty advisors.
- Monitors and receives training in current best practices in student advising and retention programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the dean.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to learn varied curricula and advise students accurately.
- Ability to learn the principles, practices, and procedures involved in academic advising, student retention, and intervention.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and other stakeholders in the academic advising and success process.
- Skilled in the operation of personal computers and the use of various software packages.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree and a year of academic support experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual/ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents.
