Job Description:
Budget Title: Academic Advisor (SL-3)
Salary: Commensurate with experience
The School of Management (SOM) at Binghamton
University, State University of New York seeks a full-time academic advisor to provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate students. This
position will entail 50% undergraduate advising responsibilities and 50% graduate responsibilities.
Core responsibilities of a
successful candidate will include:
Shared Duties
- Team-advise approximately 2000 undergraduate and
graduate students in SOM - Provide one-on-one advising
- Track student degree progress
- Orient new students to the
university, the School of Management, and student curriculum - Assist with student recruitment events
- Assist with preparation
of special SOM events, such as SOM commencement ceremonies - Assist in writing, editing, and maintaining advising
publications - Register continuing students using Banner
- Use SAS to run reports as needed
- Award SOM Alumni funded
scholarships and awards
Undergraduate Duties
- Evaluate transcripts of admitted students for
equivalence to Binghamton University coursework - Participate and contribute to the preparation of various reports, publications, and
studies - Meet with prospective students/Intra-university Transfer Students
Graduate Duties
- Monitor and advise students on academic probation
- Coordinate Graduate Management Student Association (GMA)
- Serve on
Graduate Admissions Committee/assist in making admissions decisions
Requirements:
Visa sponsorship is not
available for this position
- Bachelor’s degree in an area related to advising
- Minimum of one year of experience in
academic advising or a related field - Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively and
effectively with other SOM staff, SOM administrators, and students - Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple
tasks simultaneously - Ability to work weekends and evening hours on occasion
Preferred:
- Master’s
Degree - Prior experience in higher education advising
