certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce
training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites,
with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering,
technology and more.

We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as
an Academic Coach.

Required Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited
institution in psychology, education, student personnel, or closely related field. One year of related experience in an advising, student
support or customer service setting.

Desired Qualifications:  Previous experience working in a higher education
setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Working Hours:  Will vary between 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Occasional evening and
weekends are required.

Please note:  This position will be based at the
Daytona Campus.  The responsibilities of this position require travel for events, temporary assignment or permanent relocation to any
of Daytona State College campuses.

Salary:  $38,700.

Key Responsibilities:  
 

  • Provides comprehensive academic and career planning services to current
    and prospective students using effective communication techniques with various modes of technology and encouraging and guiding students to
    define and develop realistic goals.
  • Participates in ongoing departmental training and
    cross-training activities to ensure an understanding of the colleges programs, curriculum, graduation requirements, policies, and
    procedures, and resources and services available to students, coordinating with staff in the areas of financial aid, registration and
    admission, and other enrollment management services.
  • Inform and advise current and
    prospective students, staff, employers, faculty, and community partners regarding educational offerings, degree requirements, career
    information, and college and community resources.
  • Supports the college’s early alert program
    and other related retention initiatives and collaborates with college faculty and staff to facilitate student success, retention, and
    persistence.
  • Review student records for retention issues; follow up on progress
    through personal contact, and correspondence.
  • Coach students through non-academic and
    administrative barriers that are preventing them from progressing towards their degree, counsels them on academic and financial aid
    probation/suspension and refer them to appropriate campus resources.
  • Work with coordinated
    mentors, promote a comprehensive knowledge of the scope, purpose/role, and eligibility requirements of available services provided for
    students in a collaborative or coordinated effort for retention.
  • Document and track student
    contacts and issues using electronic files; prepare periodic reports.
  • Additional projects and
    duties as assigned.
     
  • Participates in college committees and task forces as
    required and works with faculty and academic staff to develop student-focused processes and assists in the development of goals and
    objectives for multiple department collaboration.
  • Participate in developing, facilitating,
    promoting, and implementing multiple advising and career services events in collaboration with college and agency partners, including
    career and job fairs, career planning workshops, orientations, advising sessions and information sessions.
  • Maintain safeguards around confidential and/or sensitive files and documents.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
 

  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn student
    information systems such as PeopleSoft
  • Knowledge of FERPA Regulations for handling student records.
  • Excellent
    interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete
    simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to create reports and utilize data to make decisions and projections.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented
    environment.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best
    practices into the organizational structure.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various
    situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new
    applications and systems.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
