Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Motivates, engages, guides, and co-creates plans for success that support a student population from enrollment to successful degree completion; communicate and interact with students in ways that support college and university retention and student achievement goals
  • Informs students of academic policies and procedures for class registration, withdraw, class replacement, academic probation, academic suspension
  • Uses web services and software programs such as, BANNER, Navigate, Slate, FELIX, Microsoft Office, email, Degree Works, Blackboard, Task Stream, Remind, and Kronos
  • Develops and maintains strong working and referral relationship with other campus offices (Veteran’s Services, Counseling, Career Services, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Employment, other primary role advisors, the International office, and accessibility services
  • Partner, coordinate, and communicate with Student Success offices (particularly Office of Admissions, Retention, Student Services, etc) to ensure excellent student experience and service
  • Provides intensive advising to assist students in identifying and analyzing solutions to academic problems
  • Monitors student performance and utilizes a combination of intrusive, developmental, prescriptive, and appreciative advising techniques to empower students in formulating and clarifying life, career, and educational goals
  • Develops and presents training programs for new faculty advisors and talks to various audiences/constituencies, directs peer mentors and student ambassadors, including assigned graduate assistants, in the most recent student success tactics, deals with administrative tasks and coordinates communications and activities in the office
  • Establishes and/or maintains a record-keeping system common to all Professional Advisors at FSU and enters data into records or system databases as appropriate and as needed
  • Provides training and mentoring to faculty advisors in academic advising and student success, which includes providing regular
  • Attend regular departmental, college, and advising meetings
  • Provides communication and advising support for faculty advisors and students assigned to faculty advisors in times of need (summer, orientations, faculty out-of-office, registration seasons, etc)
  • Assists college administration in planning and running co or extracurricular student engagement events and activities that support student professional and/or academic development and success
  • Provides advising support to other college’s advisors (within the university) in exigent circumstances
  • Provides general support for enrollment, retention, and engagement efforts within assigned college
  • Performs related duties as assigned or directed.

Job duties specific to College of Liberal Arts:

  • Assists college administration with recruitment and retention initiatives, including participating in evening and Saturday recruiting, and on campus and off campus events including department and college exploration days
