Serves as primary care clinician to Yale varsity student athletes and other Yale students. Provides continuing, comprehensive health care in a patient centered model. Serves as primary care sports medicine consultant for Student Health services for non-varsity athletes and other students with sports or performance related musculoskeletal conditions. Responsibilities include the following: Provides comprehensive ongoing patient centered medical care for varsity student athletes and other Yale students. Diagnoses and treats injuries and illnesses that occur because of or that impact participation in varsity athletic activities. Evaluates and implements programs for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of illness and injury to the student athlete. Serves as Primary Care Sports Medicine consultant to Yale Student Health for non-varsity athletes. and other students with sports or performance related musculoskeletal conditions. With team members, serves as rapid access clinician in Student Health Department during summer and recess sessions.

Provides medical care to student athletes during varsity games if covering. Maintains standards, in consultation and collaboration with Primary Care Sports Medicine colleagues and specialty consultants, for medical care within the specialty and assist in the development of productivity and quality assurance measures. Works closely and collaboratively with Orthopedics and Athletics Departments, interacts with the Deans and Heads of College as well as with other stakeholders and Yale Health colleagues. Interpersonal skills, collegiality, and ability to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Works closely and collaboratively with certified athletic trainers. Supports the clinical care provided by certified athletic trainers who report to the Department of Athletics. Documents encounters in the EMR including diagnosis and proposed plan of care. Updates patient’s active problems, medication list and health maintenance at each encounter. Monitors patient’s adherence with the treatment plan and varies plan according to patient’s responses. Meets departmental standards for quality of clinical care, productivity and service.

Follows practice guidelines established by the department and Yale Health. Follows all Yale Health personnel policies and procedures. Obtain and fully document detailed and appropriate histories and physical exams; collaborate with students in the formulation of a differential diagnosis and plan of care; and execute care in a timely manner. Maintain professional, clear, and regular communication with consultants and students regarding plan of care. Assist students with navigation through the specialty clinics, and the hospital system, particularly when the students are waived. With team members, serves as rapid access clinician in Student Health Department during summer and winter recess session. Communicate with Yale New Haven Hospital personnel, Infirmary staff, Yale University Deans and Heads of College, and parents regarding individual patients when appropriate. edu/ Essential Duties: 1. Examines patients to collect information about their physical condition. 2. Obtains, compiles, and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination. 3. Conducts complete physical examinations; provides medical evaluation and treatment to patients; develops treatments plans and monitors patient’s progress. 4. Advises patients on results of laboratory tests and recommends referrals to specialists or other medical facilities. 5. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, counselors and other medical staff to provide the best medical care.

6. Provides preventive health practices to patients to maintain and improve health and prevent illness. 7. Coordinates patient care including ordering of laboratory tests and radiographic studies. 8. Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval. 9. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Graduation from a Physician Assistant (PA) Training Program accredited by the American Medical Association Council on Medical Education or Master’s Degree from an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner program. Required Skill/Ability 1: Ability to work with a diverse population within a highly competitive and complex University structure.

Required Skill/Ability 2: Willingness to support staff with leadership, teaching and team building. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Required Skill/Ability 3: Demonstrated clinical skills as attested by colleagues and supervisors. Required Skill/Ability 4: Demonstrated ability to implement developed standards of quality medical care and the monitoring and utilization of health services. Required Skill/Ability 5: Previous experience working with students and young adults, preferably in a high school or college setting. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Minimum of 2 years previous experience working with Division 1 College athletic program.
