Job Description

The Miller Institute for Contemporary Art is Carnegie Mellon University’s contemporary art institute. It supports experimentation that expands notions of art and culture, providing a forum for conversations and exchange. Its mission is to advance society through transformative experiences with contemporary art and culture and to be a dynamic institute for learning and research that activates, informs and inspires. The gallery contains 7000 sq ft of exhibition space and is located in the Purnell Center for the Arts on the Pittsburgh campus.

We are seeking a diligent Art Installer to assist Exhibitions Coordinator and Arts Technician on a part-time basis with hands-on preparations of exhibitions including: installation and deinstallation of artworks and other exhibition materials; art handling with the safety and archival preservation of the artwork in mind; performing gallery maintenance; painting and patching walls for new installations; keeping tool room organized and safe.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a gallery setting
  • Comfortable handling art and heavy lifting
  • Prior experience with basic carpentry, drywall, proficiency with power tools (table saw, chop saw, etc); com­fortable using ladders and bucket lift, working height up to 20 ft.
