Summary
The National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) has an immediate opening for the Assistant Director. In this role, the Assistant Director will provide strategic leadership in strengthening engagement with NCIDs local and national audiences. We are looking for a collaborative, inclusive, strategic, relational, and creative leader who has exemplary project management skills and experience organizing individuals to create effective teams.
This position has supervisory responsibilities and is a hybrid position that will require the incumbent to be on campus 2-3 days per week. Additionally, the position reports to the director of NCID.

Responsibilities*
- Develop a strategic plan for engagement that assesses current challenges and opportunities relating to and impacting institutional diversity.
- Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies to promote NCIDs mission, values, and initiatives to local and national audiences.
- Oversee the development and implementation of internal and external communications.
- In collaboration with NCID Leadership/Associate Director, develop NCID philosophy and approach to programming.
- Establish and maintain relationships with other institutions, centers with similar profiles, and other relevant stakeholders to foster collaboration.
- Support the development and implementation of a diverse set of programmatic offerings to engage various audiences and stakeholder groups.
- Provide strategic oversight to the elevation of existing student-facing engagement and opportunities within NCID.
- Use evidence and industry best practices to inform strategies for the development, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives.
- Develop and implement a plan for systematically elevating current engagement and opportunities for students who interact with NCID.
- Work collaboratively with NCID leadership to set strategic priorities.
Required Qualifications*
- Graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Higher Education, Sociology, or a related field)
- Five to seven years of experience working professionally within an academic community, particularly with academic leaders and faculty from various disciplines, fields, and epistemological orientations.
- Strong commitment and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, including experience working with faculty, staff, students, leaders, and other stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Significant interdisciplinary knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion research (from multiple methods and epistemological orientations) and practice, especially around race, gender, class, and sexual orientation.
- Experience framing and executing programming focused on engaging scholarly communities and drawing from relevant literature to support programmatic efforts.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills with the ability to lead teams, multi-task, and support innovation and capacity-building while providing attention to logistical details and competing deadlines.
- Experience in community organizing or mobilizing groups of individuals toward addressing large and complex issues.
- Comfort working with evolving goals and projects that respond to current events and emergent opportunities.
- Ability to build relationships with faculty, staff, students, leaders, and stakeholders, both internal and external to the University of Michigan.
- Strong understanding of marketing and branding principles to support the promotion of NCID.
- Ability to craft compelling messaging to various stakeholders and audiences that effectively communicate the purpose and societal benefits of the center.
- Experience with communication tools and mediums for disseminating the work of diverse scholars. Experience with public scholarship initiatives and supporting the application of scholarship to action.
- Proven ability to successfully work in a diverse, collaborative team environment.
- Proficient with technology including Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
- Experience supervising full-time staff and graduate students.
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $77,800 to $96,000, please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidates experience.
