Job Title: Assistant Director for Multicultural Access & Retention

Reporting Relationship:
Executive Director for The Intercultural & Global Office

Summary of Position:    The Assistant Director for Multicultural Access & Retention is responsible for IWU-Marion’s
multicultural scholarship programs, which include curricular and co-curricular support initiatives designed to facilitate the successful
retention, academic success, and timely graduation of our multicultural student population. The Assistant Director will be fully responsible
for serving as the chief advocate for such programs and their students; developing and continuously refining the curricula for these
programs; planning, implementing, and assessing academic, leadership, and student success programming initiatives; recruiting new students
into the programs, and promoting them to the campus community to ensure strong visibility.

Oversees and coordinates the Multicultural
Endowed student leaders & M.E.L.A. (Multiethnic Leadership Academy); supervises interviews, application process and selection of student
scholars, designs curriculum, provide bi-weekly, co-curricular programming, leadership activities, CQ, leadership development, mentoring and
Spiritual Formation, as well as, connects student scholars with community engagement opportunities. (Churches, nonprofit organizations
etc.).

Serves as LLS (Luther Lee Scholars) program co-leader and coordinating liaison to the JWHC and attends weekly JWHC colloquium
meetings for the sake of the IGO/JWHC collaborative partnership in the Luther Lee Scholars program.

Duties and
Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates the Multicultural Endowed student leaders & M.E.L.A. (Multiethnic
    Leadership Academy)
  • Supervises interviews, application process and selection of student scholars, designs curriculum, provide
    bi-weekly, co-curricular programming, leadership activities, CQ, leadership development, mentoring and Spiritual Formation, as well as,
    connects student scholars with community engagement opportunities. (Churches, nonprofit organizations etc.)
  • Serves as LLS (Luther
    Lee Scholars) program co-leader and coordinating liaison to the JWHC and attends weekly JWHC colloquium meetings for the sake of the
    IGO/JWHC collaborative partnership in the Luther Lee Scholars program
  • Partners and assists the JWHC to plan and coordinate LLS
    recruitment: e.g., joint interview day, application review and selection process
  • Coordinates (in collaboration with JWHC staff)
    co-curricular programming for Luther Lee Scholars, special events, retreats, and banquet.
  • Supervises, recruits and trains all
    Affinity Group Leaders and faculty advisors/mentors. Organizes selection process of student applications and participation requirements
  • Supports with programming of bi-monthly meetings, monthly Tapestry meetings, leadership activities and all campus community initiatives
    (e.g. monthly Heritage Month celebrations)
  • Partners with Admissions/Marketing to communicate purpose to prospective students.
    Supervise and coordinate PIE Week (Pre-college Immersion Experience) for Luther Lee Scholars in collaboration with the JWHC. An intensive
    training preparing students to engage in diversity, equity, inclusion and intersectionality
  • Establish and cultivate community
    partnerships and provide support for Vocational Visioning through connection to opportunities for internships and career development that
    endorse and build local student engagement, mentorships and job shadowing opportunities. Be available to positively represent the university
    & IGO during designated campus visit days and/or New Student Orientation & by facilitating conferences, workshops, seminars, courses and
    other training events
  • Manage program budgets and ensure that all related financial policies and procedures are being
    implemented
  • Collaborate and support events such as Passport to Culture, Love Revolution, and other co-curricular, multicultural
    programs and events as designated by the Executive Director of Inclusive Excellence
  • Serve on the IWU (Indiana Wesleyan University)
    committees as designated by the Executive Director of Inclusive Excellence, and other planning endeavors to promote diverse student
    enrollment and retention, (e.g. RISER, MEC, SALT, NSO)
  • Reviews bias incident cases and participates in the redemptive correctional
    process with the Campus Equity Response Team as an advocate for students of diverse intersectionality
  • (CERT) Directs promotional
    materials to educate, advocate, and raise awareness related to diversity, equity, and justice on the IWU-Marion campus
  • Available
    for consultation for creating an inclusive climate for admissions guests and IGO Multicultural Visit Days. Consults with students,
    student-led groups/organizations, faculty, and staff on matters related to intercultural awareness and diversity pertaining to international
    students, TCKs, people of color, or other diverse intersectionality
  • Fulfill all other duties assigned by the Executive Director of
    the Intercultural & Global Office

Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy
all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals from diverse cultural
    backgrounds.

Required Skills

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the fields of international,
    multicultural and intercultural student education.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the areas of community engagement.
  • Well organized and able to effectively manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Personable, hospitable, and strong people
    skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Fluency in English; Multilingual preferred.
  • Experienced working with diverse student groups.
  • Experience in leading debrief groups and facilitating discussion.
  • Experienced working with collegians and/or in a university culture.
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and
    date management skills.
  • Works well as a part of a team and values collaboration and consensus.
  • Maintains a strong work
    ethic and is able to set and accomplish personal and professional goals.
