Overview:
Quinnipiac University invites applications for an Assistant Director of Peer Education. A person in this role will manage and maintain the highly successful Peer Catalyst Program, a peer academic support program that provides support for the students using the service as well as pertinent experiential learning to those students providing the service. Training, managing, and evaluating these peer educators, this role will also collaborate with and provide support to other peer academic support programs. Located in the Mount Carmel Learning Commons, this role will also be looking for opportunities to collaborate and innovate with academic units across the university community.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, maintain, and grow the Peer Catalyst Program, a College Reading and Learning Association-certified Peer Educator program
  • Collaborate with faculty regarding Peer Catalyst placement
  • Support and collaborate with other peer academic support programs as needed
  • Assist faculty and staff with academic intervention and support strategies
  • Collect and evaluate data regarding this program
  • Use data to make proposals about support opportunities
  • Interact with other professional support services on campus and in the community where deemed appropriate
  • Identify support opportunities and recommend appropriate responses
  • Promote the Peer Catalyst Program and Learning Commons through classroom presentations, open houses, faculty orientations, and other opportunities
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings pertinent to the responsibilities of this position
  • Assume additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by supervisor

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in STEM, Social Science, or Post-Secondary Education

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in academic support programs, preferably at a university
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and faculty members. This includes active listening, public speaking, and facilitating group discussions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and empathy are essential for building rapport and fostering a supportive environment within the student staff of the Learning Commons
  • Experience in designing and implementing academic support programs and initiatives that meet the diverse needs of students. This includes creating workshops, tutorials, and study groups, as well as collaborating with faculty and staff to develop comprehensive student success strategies.
  • Familiarity with various learning styles and techniques to assist students in developing effective study habits, note-taking skills, critical thinking abilities, and problem-solving strategies. Knowledge of educational technology tools and resources is beneficial.
