Bard Graduate Center

Bard Graduate Center (BGC) invites applications for the
Assistant Director of Public Humanities + Research. This is a full-time, on-site position at our campus on West 86th Street in New York
City.

The Bard Graduate Center is a graduate research institute in New York City dedicated to the study of the cultural history of
the material world and committed to the encyclopedic study of things, drawing on methodologies and approaches from art and design history,
history of technology, philosophy, anthropology, and archaeology and cultural history. Our students gravitate to careers in museums,
academia, the art world, and publishing. Our MA and PhD degree programs, gallery exhibitions, research initiatives, and public programs
explore new ways of thinking about decorative arts, design history, and material culture.

Reporting to the Director of Public
Humanities + Research, the Assistant Director oversees the execution of all internal and public-facing research events (in-person, streamed,
and/or recorded), including public lectures, conversations, performances, symposia, in-gallery events, and research convenings. This role is
responsible for both advanced planning and day-of events management, working with a team of full-time staff, student workers, and
independent contractors.

This position is expected to work some evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties and
Responsibilities

  • Event Production
    • Stage management, technical supervision (lighting, video, sound), logistics,
      and event staff management
    • Event scheduling
    • Streaming and archive video production
  • Administration
    • Contracts (drafting of unique agreements for each guest, under the supervision of the Director)
    • Budgeting and financial
      projections (project-level and overall event program) and financial data entry
  • Marketing
    • Marketing materials
      prep
    • E-blasts, website, and digital content management
    • Print materials project management (in collaboration with
      marketing dept)           
  • Oversee accessibility design in event production
  • Manage PH+R Coordinator and
    student event workers
  • Assist Director in oversight of all other department activities, including gallery tours, interactives, and
    media production

Desired Qualifications

  • Event production experience, including live streamed events
  • Extensive and diverse experiences in project management, including budgeting, expense tracking, and contracting
  • Experience
    working in an academic and/or museum environment
  • Able to use consumer-grade media hardware and editing software
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse faculty, students, and gallery staff
  • Commitment to
    advancing BGC’s stated goals for diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $65,000-$70,000,
plus a generous benefits package.
