SUMMARY
STATEMENT
The Assistant Kepler Center Technician position provides an opportunity for technicians seeking experience in the
Visual and Performing Arts to develop a professional portfolio of knowledge and experience. This position primarily supports the Kepler
Center Theater Technician (who also serves as the Technical Director for productions throughout the Fiscal year) with secondary
responsibilities to the Visual Arts Coordinator. This position also offers general support for Dance and Music at
HCC.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
A. The Assistant Kepler Center Technician reports directly to the Kepler
Center Technician.
B. This position includes responsibilities that are supervised by the Visual Arts Coordinator.
C. This
position requires the shared responsibility of assigned student workers.
D. The Assistant Kepler Center Technician coordinates
closely with the English and Humanities Division Director, English and Humanities Office Associate, the assistant to the Director of
Facilities and Plant Maintenance, the Learning Technologies Manager, and Campus Security.
DUTIES
A. General
Support
1) Must be available to provide coverage for evening and weekend events as needed.
2) Organize, clean and maintain
studio spaces, theatrical scenic shop, and control booth.
3) Provide support for classroom-type use of all theater spaces.
4) Provide minor clerical service; Maintain a weekly work log to show completed and in progress tasks
5) Event load in and
strike including tables, chairs and other items.
B. Theater Support
1) Assist in the design, construction and load in of
theatrical, dance and art shows; other construction projects as assigned.
2) Provide technical support for events including live
audio mixing and performance lighting engineering.
3) Collect theater supplies from commercial providers.
4) Assist in
maintenance of theater office records and data base.
5) Assists with box office/set up of ticket sales using ticketing
system.
6) Support Theater initiatives as assigned.
C. Art Department Support
1) Support the Visual Arts Coordinator
in the maintenance and development of art spaces.
2) Staff student open studio art times including the directing of student use of
equipment with a focus on safety.
3) Maintain studio log.
4) Collect art supplies from commercial providers.
D. Other
duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE
Associate degree required, higher degree preferred; knowledge of the proper use of small power and hand tools.
Some experience in studio art and theater desirable; Preference for candidates who have experience with sound and lighting
systems.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Punctuality, dependability, and self-motivation are a must; This position is
ideal for someone who has strong organizational skills and is a good communicator plus ability to prioritize and satisfy multiple demands.
Mac computer skills are preferred; ability to lift 75 pounds and work on ladders and catwalks.
ADDITIONAL

Valid driver’s license
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
A. Normal studio and shop environment.
Dust and dirt.
B. Work schedule may vary depending on production and departmental
needs.
