Minimum
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least one year working in college access, college counseling, or student
advising - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with emphasis on one-on-one and small group interactions
- Ability
to operate effectively as part of a team, as well as ability to work independently, as needed - Demonstrated leadership
experience - Demonstrated dedication to increasing college access
- Ability to effectively recruit, train, and manage
staff - Ability to protect confidential information in a professional manner

- Previous experience working with College
Advising Corps - Experience with staff supervision
- Previous work in a school district working with students and school
counselors - Understanding of and experience with college admissions process and college access
- Experience with facilitation
of staff training sessions - Ability to create content (graphics, videos, captions) for social media
- Experience with managing
an organizational budget and facilitating purchases
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The
primary purpose of the Assistant Director for Appalachian College Advising Corps (AppCAC) is to support the Program
Director in recruiting, training, and supervising College Advisers. The Assistant Director will support the Program Director in individual
adviser and program evaluation. The Assistant Director will organize and run events and serve as a representative of AppCAC when the Program
Director is unavailable. This individual reports to the Program Director for AppCAC, who reports to the Director of College Access
Partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities of the position includes, but are not limited to:
College Adviser
Recruitment
- Manage recruitment for 18-24 college advisers per year
- Actively engage with the undergraduate
student community at Appalachian State and visit organizations and classrooms to make presentations on behalf of AppCAC - Keep
recruitment information up-to-date - Register for and staff AppCAC booth at campus career fairs
- Coordinate search committee to
recruit new advisers
College Adviser Training and Supervision
- Aid the Program Director with
supervision and guidance of Advisers - Assist advisers in development of site-specific work plans
- Regularly visit partner high
schools and AppCAC advisers to offer advice and counsel and to troubleshoot concerns as necessary - Provide written performance
evaluation to advisers at mid-year and end-of-year evaluation points - Manage AmeriCorps Time Records of advisers
- Communicate
regularly with advisers to provide on-going feedback - Assist in planning and implementation of all virtual and in person trainings
including Summer Training and ongoing in-service trainings - Monitor Adviser progress towards meeting key performance
goals - Provide quality control of adviser data entry in the CAC database used to track student services and
interactions
Program Management
- Assist with program purchasing and budget tracking, including
adviser supply purchases - Along with the Program Director, oversee AmeriCorps funding regulations and CAC
national office requirements - Help to publicize and promote the AppCAC program in person and through letters, newsletters, social
media, and other avenues - Work with the Program Director to develop and support program goals
- Support budget management and
facilitating purchases for team of advisers
