Assistant Technical Director/Lighting Supervisor

Position Type: Full Time
Department: Theatre – Dance

Summary Description:
Support all technical needs of the department to include approved department productions, guest artists, and theatre/dance classes; supervise student employees in the areas of lighting, sets, props, sound and projection, with an emphasis in lighting. This is a 10-month position from the beginning of August to the end of May.

Anticipated Salary Range: $38,133 – $47,603 per year (10 month salary)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Technical Director in props and scenery builds and supervise students in prop/scenery builds in the directors absence.
  • Troubleshoot, upgrade, maintain, and program EOS and ION consoles and all related ETC networks and intelligent lighting fixtures.
  • Supervise all lighting for technical rehearsals load ins and strikes; lead student crews in restoring all equipment and spaces back to preshow status; train students to operate equipment and software properly and safely.
  • Maintain, secure, and keep inventory of all theatrical lighting for all Theatre/Dance department spaces, primarily Cornerstone Arts Center (CAC) and Cossitt gym; this includes but not limited to house plots, gels, instrument repairs, and system tracking failures.
  • Produce and update all light plots, instrument and channel hook up lists, and other related Vectorworks, and Lightwright documentation.
  • Purchase all related lighting equipment and supplies; keep accurate records of spending and reconcile credit card statements.
  • Lead all theater/dance assigned maintenance and lighting workshops to support productions or classroom curricular needs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and maintenance of sound related equipment including consoles, mics and speakers for productions in collaboration with the Technical Director.
  • Coordinate as needed with Audio/Visual staff to procure A/V related equipment needed for production and closely communicate with A/V staff for CAC event lighting needs.
  • Assist Technical Director in cleaning and organizing of all theatre equipment, storage and performance spaces.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience in theater production are required. Additional requirements include ability to read and hang lighting plots and program EOS and ION consoles; knowledge of proper safety procedures, rigging experience, proficiency in computer programs such as Lightwright and Vectorworks; programming knowledge in Intelligent Lighting to include moving lights and scrollers, ETC Unison and Ethernet systems; must have carpentry skills, audio and video knowledge, good judgment, organizational skills, teaching abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado Colleges motor vehicle insurance carrier.
