Position Summary
Indiana University School of Social Work seeks an accomplished professional for the position of Associate/Assistant Dean (AD) for Diversity Affairs, starting in fall 2023, located in Indianapolis. This is a 12-month administrative position available to faculty (open rank) or staff, with title based on rank of individual hired. If faculty, the AD for Diversity Affairs will carry a 1-course teaching load, which may be taught during the academic year or summer.

The successful candidate will serve as a member of the Dean’s senior administrative team with oversight of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) activities that support the strategic priorities and operational functions in the School of Social Work. The position reports to the Dean.
The Associate/Assistant Dean will be responsible for overseeing key diversity related efforts of the School and the implementation and assessment of the School’s diversity strategic plan initiatives, working collaboratively with the school’s dean, senior leadership, and School community. Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversee implementation of policies, activities and achievement of diversity related goals and objectives outlined in the School’s strategic plan- Work with the School’s leadership to develop and implement policies and practices that advance DEI and advance anti-racist and non-oppressive practices and policies- Develop strategies to increase and support curricular and co-curricular diversity efforts- Work collaboratively with the School’s Diversity Committee to coordinate, support, and develop programs to shape school activities that support DEI in service to the School and University stated missions and values- Support faculty and staff development programs focused on advancing individual and School level growth and development around DEI – Work with School admissions, program, and student services committees/groups to develop and support policies that advance DEI and support student success- Provide consultation to staff/faculty recruitment processes to promote equitable hiring of diverse faculty and staff- Work closely with the Indiana University Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs, the IUPUI Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the IUPUI Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, and the IUPUI Office of Equal Opportunity, to support broader DEI efforts- Identify and foster collaborations between the School, campuses, University, alumni, and community in support of DEI – Work with the School’s assessment team to create, implement and maintain an evaluation system for monitoring, facilitating and evaluating DEI efforts- Work with School leadership in reporting DEI outcomes as required by the campus, University, accrediting bodies, and other agencies as needed, including the School’s annual Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) Unit Action Plan- Seek external funding to support School’s DEI initiatives and activities
The candidate will demonstrate leadership and scholarly capacity to advance diversity, equity and inclusion within a complex organization. The successful candidate will possess a collaborative and transparent leadership style; effective interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and identities; ability to gather and use data to assess program effectiveness; organizational and program development skills; ability to build trust and credibility; and the capacity to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
If faculty, the Associate/Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs will also participate as a faculty member with specified roles of teaching and scholarship, based on the selected candidate’s rank.
Basic Qualifications
A minimum of a Master’s degree is required; Doctoral degree preferred. Requires a minimum of five years of diversity related professional experience.
A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
