Description:
Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean provides vision and
leadership for the College’s digital learning and academic innovation. The Associate Dean oversees the faculty development efforts related
to digital learning, enhancing pedagogical goals and strategies, and teaching effectiveness. Working closely with Academic Affairs, the
Associate Dean provides administrative management for the development of existing and new courses and programs offered in online, remote,
hybrid, technology-forward face-to-face formats. The Associate Dean coordinates services, provides direct instructional design support, and
serves as a resource for faculty professional development. The Associate Dean provides guidance and support for the faculty-led,
faculty-driven Center for Teaching Learning, and Scholarship (CTLS). The Associate Dean will serve as the chief distance learning
administrator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee and lead the AIDL team in the development,
implementation, maintenance, and assessment of high-quality digital, online education and services to best serve the needs of local and
distant online/remote students and faculty.
Provide transformational leadership for online learning and services to ensure alignment
with the overall mission and goals of RVCC, at the same time fostering innovation.
Collaborate with the AIDL team, faculty, and other
subject-matter experts to design, develop, and support high-quality online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.
Collaborate with
AIDL staff, faculty, and other stakeholders to incorporate current and emerging digital tools and interventions into courses and programs
that enrich student learning.
Partner with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (CTLS) to identify teaching and
learning needs and offer professional development, support, and mentoring to faculty through workshops, courses, faculty interest groups
(FIGs), and teaching innovation symposia.
Oversee the online/digital learning faculty certification process.
Ensure
online courses and programming meet standards set by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and NC-SARA, and comply with state,
federal, and international regulations (e.g., Credit Hour Verification, FERPA, ADA, EU) and RVCC policy, procedure, and employee
contracts.
Collaborate with RVCC Tech Services and internal stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of online learning through
the LMS (Canvas), and the proper management and currency of the LMS, related software, and equipment.
Serve as the chair of the
Online Learning and Educational Technology faculty governance committee and engage in additional shared governance committees as
appropriate.
Maintain the department budget.
Serve on the state-wide affinity group and collaborate with other colleges and
agencies to develop and maintain agreements that support and enhance RVCC online courses, programs, and student access.
Highlight
successes and recommend improvements by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to online student learning, enrollment, course
evaluations, faculty training and professional development, and other variables as they pertain to outcomes assessment, scheduling,
enrollment management, accreditation, and strategic planning.

Requirements:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
- At least three (3) years’ experience teaching online, hybrid, or
e-learning courses at the college level. - At least three (3) years’ experience in a leadership role, in a teaching and learning
center, office of online learning, or related area. - Broad knowledge of trends in higher education and best practices in the
educational technology field, online/remote/hybrid course development, and faculty development. - Experience working with internal
and external stakeholders in the delivery of online education. - Experience in faculty development that may include implementation of
training opportunities for faculty, production of appropriate teaching and learning resources in a variety of modality, development and
assessment of pilot projects with educational technologies. - Strong and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion. - Experience with accreditation and regulatory requirements associated with online learning (including MSCHE, NC-SARA, ADA
Compliance). - Experience in applying standardized rubrics (such as Quality Matters or similar) to online courses and program
development. - Technological proficiency with web applications, MS Office, Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas), and
analytics. - Experience using Student Information Systems (e.g., Banner).
- Experience collaborating with multiple and diverse
stakeholders to solve complex problems effectively. - Effective verbal/written communication, presentation, and customer service
skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Instructional Design and/or
Technology, Online/Distance Learning, Instructional Systems, or related field. - At least three (3) years’ experience administering
online/distance education courses and programs in a higher education setting - Experience as a full time tenure-track/tenured faculty
member. - Experience analyzing data to improve online enrollment, student outcomes, and the design and delivery of online
instruction and programming. - Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning and its applications within and beyond support for
specific student populations. - Training in Quality Matters.
- Experience developing and monitoring operating budgets and
grants.
