Job Description

The Associate Director of the Office of Disability Resources (ODR) reports to the Director of Disability Resources. Under the general
direction of the Director, the Associate Director works to ensure equal access for students with disabilities in all aspects of campus life,
as specified by the mandates of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, As Amended (ADAAA), as well as state
and university non-discrimination policies. The Associate Director is responsible for serving as the primary point of contact for new and
incoming students seeking accommodation. The Associate Director will review new requests and documentation and assign those students to
their respective primary specialist in the office based on the nature of their request and facts of their case. The Associate Director works
collaboratively with the Director of ODR to provide oversight, continual feedback, counsel, and shared representation on campus-wide
committees, events, and activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review and interpret student confidential
    medical and psychological evaluations to determine eligibility for services and appropriate accommodations
  • Provide ongoing student
    case management, follow-up and support of accommodations both in and out of the classroom, as well as related faculty support and
    advocacy
  • Maintain confidential student files, records and correspondence while tracking and compiling student disabilities services
    usage information
  • Provide personal growth and disability-related counseling and referrals to other appropriate resources
  • Support the ODR Director in developing, coordinating and implementing faculty/staff workshops and trainings on disability laws,
    policies, and supporting students with disabilities
  • Shared responsibilities as part of the ODR team with regard to leading and
    co-leading new student orientation, ODR Step Ahead orientation, events, workshops, trainings, and other opportunities on campus to provide
    training and consultation on disability-related needs to assist with supporting ODR mission
  • Provide information about
    disability-related services and documentation requirements to current and prospective students, university administration, faculty, staff,
    parents, and off-campus stakeholders
  • Participate on committees across the university to promote accessibility, UDL, building of
    strong campus partnerships, and support of students with disabilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ODR Director

Required Competencies:

  • Ability to manage sensitive information in a confidential and discrete
    manner
  • Working knowledge of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, As Amended, the Family Educational
    Rights and Privacy Act, and other appropriate laws
  • Familiarity with assistive technology (AT), auxiliary aids, and related supports
    for individuals with disabilities and willingness to remain current with changing AT related to disability accommodations, as well as
    instructional technology and its implementation in the educational setting
  • Expert knowledge of physical, mobility, medical,
    psychological, sensory, learning, and developmental disabilities (including autism spectrum disorder)
  • Excellent organizational,
    communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, decision-making, and writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including a high
    degree of proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting and
    collaborate with different academic and administrative departments/units

Preferred Competencies:

  • Knowledge of university policies and practices, specifically disability resources in higher education
  • Ability to create
    documents in accessible format for individuals with disabilities
  • Knowledge of program assessment and development of student
    learning outcomes
  • Familiarity with “Social Justice Model” regarding disability services in higher education

Required Education:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling,
    Social Work or related field

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience (minimum 2-3 years) in
    disability services office within a higher education setting
  • Experience with developing, monitoring, adjusting and evaluating
    individual accommodation plans for students with disabilities
  • Significant professional experience working with students with
    disabilities in higher education, student services, or related work

Preferred Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience (minimum 3-5 years) in disability services office within a higher education setting
  • Experience working
    with student and information databases
