Georgetown’s Center for Multicultural Equity and Access (CMEA) enhances the education of students historically denied access to GU because of race, ethnicity, national origin, socioeconomic status, and other marginalized identities. To live out this mission, CMEA provides a variety of intentional and culturally-relevant programming, services, and opportunities to foster student success inside and outside of the classroom.
Job Overview
The Associate Director of Student Support Services/Director of Community Scholars plans, implements, monitors and evaluates programs and services to help ensure the enrollment, retention and graduation of students who identify as African American/Black, Latino, Asian Pacific American, Native American or multi-racial, first generation college student and/or high financial need student.
They inform the strategic discussion advancing student access and success across CMEA and the Division of Student Affairs, working closely with key campus leaders to build, guide and assess practices towards persistence and graduation of this diverse student pool at Georgetown University.
As Director of the Community Scholars Program, they provide overall leadership for a comprehensive program to admit, support, retain and graduate multicultural cohorts of first-generation and low-income students at Georgetown.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Multicultural Equity and Access, the Associate Director of Student Support Services/Director of Community Scholars Director supervises two or more professional staff members, graduate students, and undergraduate students supporting specific programs. Additional interactions include but are not limited to:
- Provide vision and leadership for a comprehensive academic program, program development and review, programming for collaboration for the CMEA and diverse student populations.
- Interface with senior level administration (Dean of Admissions, Vice Provost for Education, Dean of Academic Departments, Faculty, Dean of Financial Aid) to ensure that first generation/high financial needs/students of color are recruited and have access to programs and services for retention and graduation.
- Provide leadership and development, and implements long-range strategic plans for Community Scholars Program that are aligned with the university’s goals and commitments.
The Associate Director leverages academic and co-curricular programming to support the growing racial/ethnic and socioeconomic diversity at Georgetown University. They lead new project initiatives (e.g., Regents Science Scholars Program), including multiple concurrent efforts focused on advancing effective college access and success practices in partnership with other high-profile partners and funders in collaboration with the Department of Biology-Georgetown College and the NHS.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in education/student affairs/counseling/social work or related field
- 5 to 7 years of extensive counseling and/or programming experience, including assessment and evaluation; significant experience with students of color in higher education and knowledge of student development
- Experience working with student organizations, and experience with intervention strategists for students of concern.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with individuals from all backgrounds to promote equity and access, to foster inclusion, and to effect positive change.
