DESCRIPTION
The mission of the Teaching + Learning
Commons (the Commons) is to advance student success through teaching excellence and comprehensive academic student support; be an incubator
for student academic success innovations; increase access to education on campus and beyond: and, actively promote equity and inclusion
within the organization and through its programs and services. Through six unique but integrated hubs, the Commons’ work encompasses four
areas: instructor support to enhance their teaching (inside and outside the classroom, in traditional as well as in digital teaching and
learning settings); support undergraduate and graduate students to advance their success at UC San Diego and beyond; support graduate
students to develop their professional development as instructors; and actively promote equity and inclusion within its organization and
through its programs and services.

In collaboration with the Director of Writing and
Communication Learning Services (WCLS), the Associate Director assists in developing, implementing, and assessing writing services for
students; strategizing, implementing, assessing, and revising campus-wide outreach efforts; and overseeing project management for
student-focused programming and services. The Associate Director will: work closely with the Graduate and Undergraduate Writing Tutor
Coordinators to assess and make evidence-based recommendations for student-facing services; perform general assessment of WCLS, make
evidence-based recommendations regarding revised or new programming and interventions, and coordinate such interventions; arrange staffing
for campus events and services; and, in collaboration with the Director, serve as a liaison to our campus partners, faculty, and
instructors. The Associate Director will enact our commitment to promoting equity and inclusion within our programs and services by
meaningfully contributing to – and leading whenever appropriate – efforts to improve and innovate writing-related academic support services
that will support social justice frameworks and contribute to the closure of equity gaps.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and
analyzing data, and generating reports. Experience conducting assessment and using data to inform decision making. Ability to track,
compile, maintain and prepare statistical data. - Three to four (3-4) years’ full time, professional supervisory experience in the
fields of tutoring or academic success. - Advanced knowledge on research and theoretical models that influence the application and
delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific, student-population specific). Experience conducting research, including creating
methodologies for generating and collecting meaningful data, as well as analyzing and reporting results. - Interpersonal skills.
Promotes teamwork, cooperation and mutual support to achieve goals. Encourages participation and mutual support. - Multicultural
competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Experience working with diverse student populations. Recognizes the value of diversity and helps create an environment that supports and
embraces diversity. Demonstrated ability to assess needs and develop strategies to support diversity, equity, and
inclusion. - Involvement in professional organizations within the broad field of writing studies.
- Graduate degree in
Education, Rhetoric & Composition, or appropriate related field coupled with experience in a higher education setting
preferred.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual
Full Pay Range: $59,700 – $124,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $28.59 –
$59.53
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education,
licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the
budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader
than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when
applicable).
