Job Description
This posting will be used to hire two Athletic Academic Advisors.
The Athletic Academic Advisor will be responsible for assisting the Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services with monitoring and facilitating academic progress toward graduation for student-athletes. Work with assigned athletic team(s) regarding academic performance; class/major selection; development of academic strategies related to time management, goal setting, career planning, test and note-taking skills; and other skills necessary for academic success in a post-secondary environment. Maintain confidential student-athlete records and ensure that records are updated accordingly. Acts as a liaison between student-athletes, coaches, faculty, academic departments and student services personnel and advocating on behalf of student-athletes academic interest. Assist sport programs with unofficial and official student-athletes visits. Ability to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Academic advising, class scheduling, and schedule verification for student-athletes
- Work with primary (major) academic advisors to assist student-athletes completion of university degree programs and requirements
- Manage working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, administrators and faculty
- Ensure student-athletes meet university academic standards related to general education course selection
- Monitor and track continuing student-athlete eligibility
- Assist with student-athlete summer school verification, approval, and enrollment
- Assist prospective student-athletes with the NCAA Eligibility Center and academic requirements for eligibility
- Assist Associate Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, Senior Associate Director/SWA with life skill workshops periodically throughout the academic year
- Maintain knowledge and have commitment to follow NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and University rules/regulations concerning academic eligibility and progress in a Division I athletic program
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services, Assistant AD/Compliance or Executive Director of Academic Advising
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Two years of academic advising experience at the high school or postsecondary education level
- Knowledge of higher education retention issues and approaches
- Knowledge of academic improvement strategies for students in academic difficulty
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively
- Strong written, interpersonal, group and public speaking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- At least two (2) years experience in athletic academic advising in a post-secondary education environment
- Experience working with academically at-risk student-athletes
- Experience with NCAA compliance and eligibility
Additional Information
