The Senior Director, Capital Management and Construction reports to the Vice President, Facilities and Campus Operations, and is responsible for executing a complex project portfolio which includes master planning and space planning in the research, clinical and administrative environments, new construction, major infrastructure and tenant improvement projects. Duties include managing capital projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with governing laws and statutes. This role will also be accountable for the Facilities Oversight Subcommittee, which is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, reviewing and providing recommendations to the Capital Oversight Committee regarding space and capital requests. Responsibilities Job Duties Directs multi-year capital improvement planning activities, including identification of proposed projects and development of their scope, budget and funding plans Oversees preparation and submission of all project planning documents to senior leadership, and other constituencies or planning partners Manages capital development for all new facilities Oversees all construction, including but not limited to office and lab relocations, repairs, replacements and upgrades, and new facility construction; and manages construction contracts. Regularly interacts with senior leadership, appropriate committees, and relevant constituencies to drive campus space planning and major master planning projects and activities, balancing lab and office space Creates and maintains building and interiors standards Gains a thorough understanding of the design needs of faculty and staff Staffs Space Committee meetings Develops and provides schematic plans for testing concepts Directs and manages activities of managerial and professional direct reports, non-employees, and other relevant collaborators or partners, spanning multiple functional areas, to include selection, training, setting performance standards and stretch goals, evaluating, and, as required, taking corrective action Selects, coordinates, directs and oversees external project managers, architects, design consultants, developers, contractors, subcontractors and other third parties as appropriate Represents senior management as required, including attending meetings, responding to informational requests and assisting in emergency response planning/training Qualifications Required Qualifications Minimum of ten years of experience managing multiple and diverse architectural and construction projects including master, facilities, and space planning, ideally at the org-wide level Seven years of demonstrated management/supervisory experience Experience in working on or closely with wet lab, clinical research, academic, medical, acute and health systems Proven flexibility in combining broad big picture thinking with relevant details Previous experience with direct supervision and mentoring of professional-level employees Other Competencies Communication: Clearly and persuasively communicate, listen and seek clarifications; write clearly and informatively. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact knowledgeably and effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Proven ability to translate between technology, operations, science and healthcare. Collaboration: Engage and be viewed as an accessible partner within the Hutch and partner organizations This position is patient facing and/or requires access to Fred Hutch clinical facilities. As such, full COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment, without exception. Booster doses are strongly recommended but not required. If declining a booster, completion of the COVID-19 Vaccination Status Form Questionnaire and COVID-19 Booster Declination Training is required. The annual base salary range for this position is from $144,923 to $241,538 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
