Description
The coordinator for multicultural initiatives will focus primarily on the Men of Color Initiative (MCI)
coordinating and managing the student experience, social development, and academic success of all the students in the program. They will
contribute to the development of a curriculum, informed by best practices, which provides individualized support for the well-being and
sense of belonging of MCI members to enhance their retention and graduation rates.
The coordinator will serve as the liaison between
Multicultural Affairs and the Office of Learning Communities. They will also provide support to the Indigenous students of the Native
Students program. Multicultural Affairs is part of the Intercultural Engagement (IE) team also consisting of the LGBTQ Resource Center, the
Disability Cultural Center, and the Center for International Services. The person in this position will partner with the coordinators and
other staff of the IE team to provide intersectional programs and events to the University
community.
Qualifications
- Experience working with students from multicultural populations (including
but not limited to Native, Black/African American, Latin, Asian, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, and Multiracial students) - Strong
knowledge and application of student development theory with regards to multicultural populations through an intersectional
lens. - Excellent interpersonal, presentation, writing and communication skills, including workshop facilitation.
- Familiarity
with assessment and evaluation - Experience supervising student staff strongly desired.
- Program development and event planning
and management. - Excellent writing and editing skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
- Ability
to work independently and as a member of a team. - Experience relevant to working with the student populations served by Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, and Transgender Resource Center, Disability Cultural Center, or the Center for International Services a plus. - Ability to
manage professional relations with various constituencies and represent the programs, department, and institution in a positive
manner.

Responsibilities
Programming Coordination & Facilitation:
- Coordinate and manage
the Men of color initiative (MCI) with primary emphasis on student experience, social development, and academic
success/achievement. - Create and facilitate weekly workshops for MCI, focusing on empowerment, leadership, and professional
development. - Manage MCI Advisory Council, bringing in advisory council members for workshops.
- Oversee undergraduate and
graduate student hiring and facilitate weekly meetings with MCI interns and the affiliated graduate student/academic
consultant. - Contribute to the development of a curriculum, informed by best practices, to provide individualized support for the
well-being and sense of belonging of any student of color (not already enrolled in an OMA program) and promote student
retention. - Assist in OMA’s programming assessment initiatives.
Intercultural Engagement (IE) Shared
Resource:
- Partner with staff of the IE (International Services, Disability Cultural Center, LGBTQ Resource Center,
and Multicultural Affairs. - Represent IE at university-wide opportunities (admissions events, family weekend,
orientation. - Upkeep and maintenance of Intercultural Collective suite (132 Schine) in partnership with other IC
staff.
Major Celebrations:
- Collaborate with OMA staff on diversity and inclusion programming
including the planning and implementation of the celebratory months – Latin Heritage Month (LHM), Native Heritage Month (NHM), Black History
Month (BHM), and Asian, Asian American, Pacific Islander History Month (AAPIHM). - Assist in the planning and implementation of OMA¿s
End of Year celebration, Multicultural Graduation Reception, and the Black Graduation/Itanwa Orinwa (Our Story, Our
Song).
Living Learning Communities & Native Student Program
- Assist the Native Student Program
coordinator in planning and implementing programs and events for Indigenous students. - Serve as the liaison between Multicultural
Affairs (OMA) and Living Learning Communities (LC) on matters related to the Multicultural Living Learning Community (MLLC). - Other
duties as assigned.
