Description:
The Coordinator for Student Engagement implements department mission, goals, objectives
by providing year-round activities and events in the areas of community engagement, advocacy, social justice education, and leadership
development that celebrate cultures, communities, and inclusion. This position focuses on providing educational programs and
trainings/workshops to students, faculty and staff. Additionally, the incumbent will supervise and manage the Gender & Sexuality Resource
Center to support LGBTQ+ identities on campus and gender equity programs. Furthermore, this position has increased responsibilities with web
management and assessment. The role will provide outreach to various units to collaborate on social justice initiatives and multicultural
education which supports the college to career quality enhancement plan

DUTIES

Programming (30%)

* Coordinate on-going educational programs including, but not
limited to, history and heritage month events, cultural awareness and community building initiatives, dialogue and discussion forums, MOSAIC
(Multicultural Outstanding Student Achievement & Innovation Celebrations) Week activities, and inclusion-centered workshops and
trainings.

* Develop campus-wide partnerships to scale the scope of engagement and represent the Multicultural Center on CCI
collaborative committees for events such as history and heritage month celebrations (i.e., MLK Commemoration, LGBT History Month, Women’s
History Month, etc.)

* Increase cultural awareness and cultural humility by creating collaborative programs pertaining to identity,
intersectionality, and issues impacting communities locally, nationally, and internationally.

* Support New Student Orientation
(NSO) and Panther Welcome

* Develop campus-wide partnerships to scale the scope of engagement.

* Assist with training,
supervision, and development of student assistant and graduate assistant staff.

* Facilitate and/or attend evening and weekend
programs as needed for student events.

Outreach/Consultation/Advising (25%)

Advising & Student
Success

* Provide support to diverse and underrepresented students to include BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Women, etc., which
includes advisement, educational programming, retention referrals & resources, and leadership opportunities.

  • Manage one or more
    department student affinity groups (such as Womxn of Color, LGBTQ+, etc.) and related identity-development initiatives.
  • Partner with
    various university departments, faculty, staff, and alumni to connect students to programs, services, workshops, and
    resources.
  • Identify, build, and maintain relationships with affinity groups, including but not limited to registered student
    organizations (RSO), departments and other stakeholders; Provide consultation to student organizations coordinating programs related to
    cultures, communities, and inclusion.
  • Help coordinate, support and attend on and off-campus opportunities for students, e.g.,
    conferences and events.

Education, Gender & Sexuality Initiatives

    • Develops, coordinates, and
      administers regularly occurring educational workshops and training that focus on global and intercultural fluency and
      inclusion.
    • Develops, coordinates, and administers department library collection and supporting programs.
    • Create and host
      gender and sexuality events throughout the year and provide opportunities to engage with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community
      partners.
    • Increase cultural awareness and cultural humility by creating collaborative programs pertaining to identity,
      intersectionality, and issues impacting communities locally, nationally, and internationally.

Collaboration,
Partnerships, and Campus Involvement

  • Initiate new and support on-going programming with various racial, cultural, and
    ethnic student communities, including educating the general student population to increase awareness and sensitivity to the needs of
    marginalized student communities at Georgia State University.
  • Attend appropriate university functions and campus events to maintain
    visibility/approachability.
  • Assist with other events/programs sponsored by the Multicultural Center and other units within the
    Division of Student Success.
  • Serve on office, divisional, and university sponsored program initiatives and committees; Assist on
    special committees, including but not limited to New Student Orientation, Panther Welcome, and Homecoming.
  • Develop relationships
    with the campus and local community to enhance student success and work collaboratively with other (e.g., colleagues, stakeholder, vendors)
    to implement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with other Student Engagement and Programs offices, Academic Affairs, and other
    college offices on co-curricular programming opportunities and to promote the Multicultural Center as a hub for promoting diversity,
    intercultural awareness, and networking.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff on issues related to diversity/cultural
    programming, and historically underrepresented student groups.

Professional Development
(25%)

Assessment

  • Assist with conducting a wide range of assessment measures to track student
    retention efforts which could include surveys and student focus groups.
  • Utilize university supported software systems to improve
    student engagement, persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
  • Stay abreast of current trends related to multicultural
    programming and higher education.
  • Collaborate in doing research, analyzing relevant literature, and benchmarking information to
    develop new program ideas, propose program changes, and implement ongoing programming.
  • Develop, administer, and analyze
    assessment/evaluation questionnaires and help compile data for reports.

Budget Management

  • Assist
    with managing the departmental budget by tracking expenses and completing monthly budget reports.
  • Responsible for managing a
    programming budget.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts to support CCI functions and initiatives.

Compliance

  • Monitor the Multicultural Center space and report any misconduct and/or misuse as
    appropriate.
  • Make recommendations on student policies and procedures.

Supervision

  • Participate in meetings, trainings, team building and professional development
    initiatives.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection and on-going training and development of employees.
  • Provide supervision
    of undergraduate and graduate/professional staff, inclusive of payroll, scheduling, and on-going coaching.
  • Assist with office
    management, inclusive of completing administrative tasks, ordering supplies, and managing reservations and service orders for the Atlanta
    Campus.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as
    assigned.

Training & Presentations

  • Develop, facilitate, and assess relevant workshops and training
    that educate and engage in critical reflection of culture, gender, sexuality, race, ability, ethnicity, social class and other significant
    aspects of identity and diversity.
  • Participate in divisional, state, regional, and national professional training
    opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of latest knowledge and research in multicultural education, community engagement, and leadership
    development.
  • Attend trainings and conduct presentations at regional and national professional organizations, e.g., American College
    Personnel Association (ACPA), National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and National Conference on Race and Ethnicity
    in Higher Education (NCORE).

Marketing and Communications (15%)

  • Assist in the marketing and promotion of
    departmental and community resources through various mediums, including website, e-newsletter, social media, brochures, presentations,
    videos, etc.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings, committees, or other related groups to communicate information regarding
    programs, services, areas of opportunity and other pertinent information.
  • Serve as a representative for internal and external
    partners who seek to support CCI initiatives.
  • Work with University PRMC to effectively manage websites and other communication
    platforms.
  • Ensure that department listservs are current, and newsletter and social media content is reflective of the communities
    that we serve.
  • Support creating visual platforms (photography, videos, etc.) that help create compelling narratives that reflect the
    MC’s mission and vision.

Other (5%)

  • Contribute to the overall success of the Multicultural Center by
    performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Master’s
degree and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring
Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field
  • At least two years of
    related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Preferred three years’ experience in multicultural
    affairs, community engagement, and leadership development.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
    skills
  • Comfortable public speaking in large and small groups.
