Position Highlights

The part time Writing Center Program Coordinator contributes to daily operation of the THINK TANK Writing Center and furthers its goal of providing peer writing support for matriculated students at the University of Arizona. The Program Coordinator works with the Assistant Director of Writing Support and Services Coordinator to provide day-to-day program oversight of the embedded tutoring program and general Writing Center operations and helps foster a welcoming, collaborative, and professional environment within which both writing tutors and student clients can thrive.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with the Assistant Director of Writing Support and Services Coordinator to develop and implement an exemplary and comprehensive tutoring program.
  • Leads the Embedded Tutoring initiative, and tracks relevant data related to the program’s success and adaptation.
  • Maintains tutor schedule with tutor information for the Embedded Tutoring program.
  • Creates and updates Embedded Tutoring program materials when necessary.
  • Helps coordinate the recruitment, hiring, and training of tutoring staff within established budget guidelines.
  • Works with the administrative team to supervise, support, observe, and evaluate tutors.
  • Helps plan and facilitate tutor training sessions.
  • Creates training materials when necessary.
  • Assists with approving payroll and tutor leave requests.
  • Provides technical and methodological expertise for tutors.
  • Provides problem solving assistance, interprets departmental policy and procedures pertaining to tutoring.
  • Responsible for regularly communicating the progress, outcomes, and direction of work to the Assistant Director of Writing Support.
  • Makes recommendations concerning improvement of programs and services to the Assistant Director of Writing Support.
  • Assists in special programs, as requested.
  • Follows established guidelines to communicate workplace information to tutors and admin team members.
  • Assists tutors in clock-in and clock-out procedures and other HR-related functions.
  • Maintains collaborative working relationships with members of THINK TANK staff and campus colleagues.
  • Interacts with THINK TANK staff to facilitate departmental work.
  • Supports THINK TANK through participation in a variety of departmental activities, assignments, and committees.

  • Familiarity with University of Arizona student worker hiring procedures and policies.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and ethical principles in working with tutors and students.
  • Knowledge of CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One year of relevant work experience required.
  • Tutor program experience.
  • Experience supervising student workers.
