and media arts and business is currently searching for a Shop Manager, Costume Shop. 

POSITION
SUMMARY

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Faculty Costume Shop Manager is responsible for managing the budget and
building costumes for mainstage theatre productions, supporting costume designers and supervising student work-aids of the Costume Shop.
They will manage the maintenance of shop equipment, and costume lending. They will also ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation
of the shop, and directly support student learning, providing consultation to student designers and work aides to ensure the success of
costume operations for over 40 productions per year with more than 200 performances – all designed and stage managed by students and the
majority directed by students. 

This position also supports class and faculty needs for costumes for classroom rehearsals and
performances.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Construct, rent and/or alter all costumes, manage their budgeting
    as needed for mainstage and departmental productions. Mentor and oversee costume students in the construction and alteration of costumes for
    student productions and on projects as assigned.
  • Provide input to Faculty Costume Design Coordinator on assigning student designers
    to productions.
  • Collaborate with production team including student designers to identify scope of building requirements for the
    production, determine required materials, assign construction tasks, and set fitting schedules, in order to deliver costumes as designed, on
    time.
  • Supervise fittings with designers.
  • Meet with student directors and student costume designers to set procedures,
    limits and use of the costume shop and storage for student directing projects.
  • Attend production meetings and advise student
    costume designers as needed.
  • Manage lending/borrowing of costume stock.
  • Maintain costume stock; manage laundry and dry
    cleaning, manage load ins and strikes of costumes for all productions, and the organization and storage of costumes.
  • Supervise
    student work-aides working in the Costume Shop and Make-up room.
  • Maintain shop equipment, including performing basic
    repairs/maintenance to sewing machines and irons, arranging for more substantive repairs when needed, and scheduling yearly maintenance of
    industrial machines.
  • Purchase supplies for the shop, working with designers to procure specialty supplies for productions, and
    reconcile P-card monthly.
  • Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned or required.
  • Bachelor’s
    Degree in Theatre preferred.
  • Minimum of five years working in a professional or educational environment.  Previous experience in an
    academic environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experienced theater
    professional who is highly knowledgeable in all aspects of costume construction and will effectively navigate the complexities of a
    multifaceted work environment and ambitious production calendars.
  • Working knowledge of PC and Macintosh based productivity
    software, as well as functional familiarity with industry standard theatrical software and able to learn other software as needed.
  • Prior supervisory experience of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience advising, and training students preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various
    groups.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Able to maintain irregular and extended working hours.
