The Costume Studio Manager oversees the daily operation of the
costume studio including personnel, budget, and supplies management. The Costume Studio Manager is responsible for supervising the
production and completion of new costumes, the refurbishment/alteration of existing costumes, and coordinating rentals for the production
season.
Essential Duties
- Oversees the daily operation of the costume shop including personnel and
supplies management. Supervises the production and completion of new costumes and the refurbishment, alteration of existing costumes for the
production season. - Assists in oversight of educational mission of the costume program.
- Attends necessary departmental
meetings and rehearsals. - Directly supervises the costume staff and students.
- Maintains the machinery, equipment, and
facilities of the area. - Manages the daily operations of the costume area.
- Performs various duties as needed to
successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree, AND:
-
24 months of professional theater
experience in costuming.
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu
of the Bachelor’s degree for a total of 72 months of related experience.
Skills:
- Ability to accurately
read and understand written materials and instructions - Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty,
and staff - Effective oral and written communication
- Ability to keep organized budgets and tracking available funds
- Ability to work independently and exceptional organizational skills
- Costume construction skills
- Ability to perform
basic machine maintenance - Ability to learn and utilize new technologies quickly
- Attention to detail
- Able to
supervise staff and communicate directions and expectations effectively
Advertised Physical Requirements:
- Physical: Must be able to stand for extended periods. Lift up to 50 lbs. and be able to kneel and/or stoop for short periods.
Ability to engage in repetitive motion. Physical stress or discomfort includes, but is not limited to, odors, greasy, inky or dirty
materials, extreme temperature, irritating noises, heavy lifting, stooping, standing, bending, climbing or sitting with no relief and safety
hazards. Job duties performed in clinical settings or labs may include exposure to human blood, blood products, or other body fluids and
potential exposure to diseases and infections. - Environmental: Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods;
requires contact with students. Willing to work nights and weekends.
Departmental Preferences
- Masters degree in costume technology or design
- Experience in construction of dancewear
- Experience in theatrical period
costumes - Tailoring experience
- Worked or trained in a professional costume shop
- Knowledge or experience with
computer aided design programs (Adobe Illustrator, Clo 3D, Pattern Master Boutique, Tailor-Made, etc.)
Certifications
& Licenses
- Valid Driver’s License
