Job Title: Director – Clinical Research Center Cost Center: 201371330 MCRI-Clin Epidem and Pop Hlth Scheduled Weekly Hours: 12 Time Type: Part time Job Description: JOB SUMMARY The Director-Clinical Research Center will provide policy direction, operational guidance, and scientific leadership for the Marshfield Clinic Health System’s (MCHS) multi-specialty clinical trial program. The Director-CRC will make a scientific and leadership contribution to the mission of MCRI. This individual serves as the lead spokesperson for clinical trial research efforts and mentors and oversees the productivity of clinicians engaging in clinical trials. The Director-CRC works with internal and external parties to expand on the research within the CRC. This individual will work collaboratively with various leaders throughout MCRI and MCHS to develop and implement complementary strategic plans in the research institute in support of the overall health system. Position Location: Marshfield, WI Hour Expectations: M-F; 0. 3 FTE to fall between 8am – 5pm (can work with up to 0. 7FTE Clinical time) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Sets the mission, vision, and values of the research center to ensure Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) and the Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) research missions are being met. Promotes and provides leadership for long-term MCRI and research center strategic planning and program objectives, in collaboration with MCRI Executive Director, Center/Office Directors, and Administrators.

Maintains oversight and responsibility for research center operational and research budgets. Provides oversight of Associate Clinical Research Center Director(s) to ensure the successful conduct of clinical trials at the highest quality and within established timelines and budgets. Evaluates business needs with a continual focus on process improvement, solicits feedback and shares ideas to enhance research operations. Collaborates with senior level management and staff to identify, investigate and pursue research opportunities, including the development of long-term relationships with pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Consults and develops supportive relationships with clinicians and other researchers within the health system in preparation of extramurally funded clinical trial initiatives. Directs recruitment and mentoring of Marshfield Clinic Health System clinicians to develop and maintain clinical trial programs in the area of specialty. Evaluates clinician participation in research and research compensation programs to ensure productivity and accountability. Develops succession planning for leadership roles within the research center. Works with the Research Compliance Officer and Privacy Officer to assure the research center structure are in place to meet research compliance requirements. Works in partnership with Marshfield Clinic Legal Services in preparation, implementation and monitoring of contracts, other intellectual property protections documents, and other related legal service agreements for MCRI as it relates to the research center activities.

Promotes a positive relationship between MCRI and the communities as well as patients served by the Marshfield Clinic Health System through public speaking, education, and other forms of community and public outreach. Directs efforts/collaboration with the external institutions. Identifies and pursues extramural funding opportunities to perform clinical trial research along, or in collaboration with other investigators. Participates on professional committees, at state and national conferences, and at other external meetings to establish networks and resources. Delivers regular reports and updates on the research center’s accomplishments and direction to Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) leadership to communicate activities and coordinate with MCRI strategic plan. Attends MCRI Oversight Board Meetings when possible. Maintains a clinical practice as applicable. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform, within scope, role-specific functions. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Doctoral degree in Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Preferred/Optional: Prior training in the conduct of clinical trial research, obtained through coursework and/or workshops. EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: Six years of research experience with proven ability to lead and mentor clinician-investigators. Past experience in industry-sponsored clinical trial research is required. Preferred/Optional: None CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc. , are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. Minimum Required: Licensure to practice Medicine in the State of Wisconsin. Preferred/Optional: None Department Overview: The Clinical Research Center provides comprehensive services to ensure efficient, quality clinical trials of drugs, devices and biotechnology conducted at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield and at many of our Health System’s regional centers.

We guide studies from grant development through publication, whether industry-sponsored, federally funded or investigator-initiated. Led by physician principal investigators, our dedicated team of research coordinators and regulatory professionals are nationally certified by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and/or the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA). We support up to 100 clinical trials at any given time. While the Clinical Research Center has special emphasis on cardiology, infectious disease, neurology, pediatrics, vaccinology, and rare diseases, physicians and staff throughout the Health System are able to engage in research in any specialty. The common thread throughout these diverse areas is that the Clinical Research Center prides itself on delivering research services with the utmost integrity. Our investigators have access to a dedicated Clinical Research Unit to conduct trials.
