Job Description:

The
University at Albany is seeking a full-time Director of operations for the HHMI EXCELlence in STEM Program and the Center for Achievement,
Retentions, and Student Success (CARSS). The Director reports to the Associate Vice Provost for the Learning Commons and is responsible for
the supervision of a small team of professional staff-employees, including 10 to 12 Graduate Assistants.

The Director will work
closely with the Associate Vice Provost for the Learning Commons to develop strategic partnerships and expanded academic support
opportunities.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation and operations of the EXCELlence in
    STEM program.
  • Support the management and continued development of the Learning Commons unit, including assisting the AVP with
    employee staffing, program budgeting, unit finances and purchasing, and facilities administration.
  • Coordinate with Schools and
    Colleges to develop partnerships that support and ensure effective tutoring, recruitment of peer tutors, and collaboration with the
    EXCELlence in STEM program.
  • Supervise professional, clerical, and student staff.
  • Provide oversight to the planning and
    scheduling of the semester and summer tutoring schedules in coordination with the Program Coordinator.
  • Oversee the implementation
    of the STEM Tutor Training courses.
  • Engage in continued assessment of program effectiveness and develop strategies to adjust based
    on program outcomes.
  • Manage the real-time collection and monitoring of project data including participant and outcome data, in
    coordination with the Program coordinator and CHSR.
  • Prepare and present required data and reports for HHMI as well as other
    sponsors, the University and the larger community as needed.
  • Provide direct communication with university-wide administrative
    officers regarding budgeting, personnel, academic affairs, and student affairs.
  • Contribute to the development of marketing and
    communication strategies.
  • Pursue advancement and funding opportunities.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by the US Department of
    Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • At least three years of administrative experience in higher
    education project management in student success related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
    in a challenging environment.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
    skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD from a college or university
    accredited by the US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Management of a grant
    funded student success project.
  • Experience writing and securing grant funding for educational projects.
