accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and five years of directly related professional
experience in a higher education setting.

Job Description Summary

The University of South Alabama’s College
of Medicine is seeking to hire a Director, Learning Support Services – College of Medicine.  Interested candidates should apply to be

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the design, development and operations of the Whiddon College of
    Medicine programs that support student learning and academic success.
  • Coordinates learning services on learning strategies and
    assessment as well as diagnosis of barriers to student academic progress in the high stakes environment of medical school.
  • Develops
    and implements educational curricula, student retention strategies and tracks and evaluates methodologies that support students’ academic
    success.
  • Directs the College of Medicine (COM) technology tools and processes for the use of individualized learning plans,
    providing ongoing training and professional development for faculty, staff and students.
  • Leads medical students in the development
    of effective learning plans that promote uptake of strategies for academic improvement and advancement through the
    curriculum.
  • Monitors students’ progress with learning plans, providing ongoing feedback, monitoring and adjusting plans as
    appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Division of Medical Education, Officer of Student Affairs, Office of Accreditation and Planning,
    and Office of Diversity and Inclusion to serve as a resource and conduit for students.
  • Collaborates with the Division of Medical
    Education and the Officer of Accreditation and Planning to create required curriculum assessment reports involving student academic
    support.
  • Designs and implements academic skill-building in areas that include but are not limited to productivity modeling, time
    management, critical reasoning and comprehension, test-taking strategies.
  • Conducts formal learning preferences, baseline skills for
    mastery of information, and approaches to group learning and team-building skills.
  • Works with students one-on-one or in small groups
    to identify areas of difficulty and helps them develop effective learning habits.
  • Oversees a system for student progress and
    identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides faculty development sessions to enhance faculty’s ability to provide effective
    teaching or advising to struggling learners.
  • Effectively collaborates with faculty, staff and students.
  • Maintains
    information for LCME self-study and accreditation development.
  • Collaborates with Offices of Student Affairs and Faculty Development
    to promote professional development workshops for faculty and career advisors.
  • Maintains a robust listing of local and online career
    services for students.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as
    required.
  • Related duties as required.
