Job Description:

Reporting
to the Dean of Admission, Undergraduate Admission, the Director of Admission, Diversity Recruitment & Access, oversees the recruitment
strategy and initiatives for under resourced student candidates (First Generation, Low-Income, ESOL) & BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People
of Color).  In conjunction with the Dean, the Director establishes a recruitment strategy, creates initiatives, oversees and
monitors its execution, and evaluates each imitative and effort.  The Director works collaboratively with the Director of
Undergraduate Recruitment to synchronize efforts in support of a wide variety of Admission and Recruitment goals, as well as in
support of the Undergraduate Admission Department and the University’s strategic admission goals and objectives.  The Director of
Admission, Diversity Recruitment & Access, manages and mentors other Admission staff members.

Leadership

  • As a member of the Admissions Office senior leadership team, actively contribute to
    strategic decision making, staff management, staff assessment and evaluation.
  • Work closely with the Dean of Admission to set
    expectations, establish office culture, and monitor the execution of established strategies.
  • Hire, train, manage, motivate, and
    evaluate direct report staff.

Under-Resourced and BIPOC Student Recruitment

  • Oversee and
    assist others in the execution of recruitment efforts through a variety of activities, including, but not limited to, organizing high
    school events and identifying college fairs.
  • In collaboration with the communications team, develop an authentic, comprehensive and
    targeted multi-population communication plan.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop differentiated recruitment plans in all
    recruitment territories.
  • Develop and oversee the execution of thoughtful and intentional prospective and yield events, both on
    campus and off. 
  • Build, manage, and nurture key external and relationships and partnerships with community-based organizations
    that will enhance the University’s ability to raise its profile and increase applicants from under-served populations and geo-markets. This
    includes but is not limited to, maintaining, deepening and initiating relationships, updating and overseeing an active directory and
    communication flow, planning and executing events for this particular audience.
  • Assist in developing, planning and executing LATINX
    initiatives such as Spanish speaking sessions and print pieces.
  • Serve a spokesperson and advocate for the Division’s inclusive
    excellence goals.

Undergraduate Admission Goals

  • Establish and foster internal and external
    relationships to achieve undergraduate admission goals.
  • Lead the team in the appropriate promotion of the Intercultural Leadership
    Award and serve as the in-house expert in understanding the marketing, selection, awarding, and success of these students.
  • Work with
    the Dean of Admission to coordinate all marketing materials specific to under resourced and BIPOC student recruitment and promotion of the
    ILA scholarship.
  • Plan, oversee, and assist in the execution of any Early Outreach Programing (EOP), which aims to boost the
    enrollment of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts’s underrepresented and under-resourced youth through strategic partnerships with
    high school and community-based organizations.
  • Participate in evaluating and providing solutions for current practices that would
    hinder the admission and enrollment of under-resourced and BIPOC students.
  • Help maintain and strengthen campus partner and student
    relationships that support and foster the recruitment and enrollment of new students from under-resourced and BIPOC
    backgrounds.
  • Support efforts for traditional, new, and inventive strategies for under-resourced and BIPOC student
    recruitment.
  • Assess and provide feedback on the effectiveness of strategies through the use of institutional data, industry data,
    current trends and future forecasting.
  • Provide leadership and direction to other team members and in settings where
    appropriate.

Analysis and Planning

  • Conduct high-level data collection and analysis, query
    management, new issue tracking, and data reporting in achieving the Division’s geographic scope, diversity, and representation
    goals.
  • Conduct territory analysis and planning.
  • Report on current and future trends, bench-marking, territory statistics,
    and student search statistics and activity.
  • Create and develop an annual strategic plan for recruiting and enrolling under resourced
    and BIPOC students based on relevant and evolving data.
  • Access and utilize data for decision making to appropriately align
    resources, refine programs and track outcomes about the effectiveness of recruitment efforts and initiatives.

Student Recruitment and Territory Management

  • Oversee the overall student recruitment plan to attract
    domestic, international and under resourced and BIPOC students from established geographic areas.
  • Assist with transfer and
    international recruitment admission efforts.
  • Plan and execute targeted promotion activities that support and maximize outreach
    efforts to achieve representation goals and recruitment results.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the National trends in
    Higher Education, particularly in the areas of admission and Enrollment Management.
  • Attract students (including domestic freshmen,
    transfer and international) from an assigned geographic area by visiting high schools, attending college nights and college fairs, and
    making formal presentations to groups of students and parents on and off campus.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with high
    school guidance counselors, independent counselors and community-based organizations, developing a wide base of prospects to further the
    continued growth of the University’s recruitment effort.

Student Admission

  • Review a
    caseload of prospective student applications and make admission decisions in accordance with established admission accept
    policies.
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with admitted students, advising on such matters as degree requirements,
    academic and extracurricular University life, admission standards, University culture, and the logistics of visiting and/or living on or off
    campus.

Trend Assessment Under- Resourced & BIPOC Recruitment

  • Support team effort towards
    understanding and grasping the ever-changing trends in student interest, recruitment, and admissions.
  • Assist team in understanding
    how these trends are consistent or different among individual populations.
  • Recognize that such trends constitute a building block of
    the overall recruitment program and therefore require constant monitoring and interpretation.
  • Develop and manage the team’s
    multicultural database and the generation of trend assessment reports in support of the final goal.

Resource
Management

  • Participate in select management activities for the Admissions team, including but not limited to budget
    management and professional development of the team with regard to multicultural student recruitment.
  • Manage all Multicultural
    Admissions budgets including visit, printing, advertising and mailing budgets.

University Relations
Liaison

  • Serve as a primary liaison for Admission visitors, which includes regular and targeted correspondence with
    all prospects, families and guidance staff.
  • Increase the visibility of the University with external constituents by disseminating
    University literature and other applicable data in order to keep target schools and school counselors informed of recruitment and outreach
    efforts.
  • Participate in University Committees to enhance the effectiveness of student admission programs.
  • Participate in
    Admission committees as appointed, including but not limited to Early Action and Regular Decision committees.
  • Prepare student
    applications for review and formulate early admission decisions while working under strict time constraints.

Additional Functions

  • Participate, as necessary, in other technical and/or professional admission
    matters as delegated by the Directors, Associate Dean, or Dean.
  • Assist in the support and preparation for all enrollment management
    events with specific attention to logistical details, staffing and support materials.
  • May be responsible for a small recruitment
    territory.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in student services or a
    related field.
  • Minimum of five to eight years of progressive admission and/or higher education experience.
  • Extensive
    experience working with and/or leading initiatives targeted at under-resourced and BIPOC students. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
    and customer service orientation with the ability to convey and obtain information amongst a variety of audiences such as students, parents,
    alumni and staff.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines and adept at shifting
    skills to accommodate changing priorities with the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft
    Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel 30-40% of the time.
  • Ability to work some nights, weekends,
    and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student services or a related
    field.
  • Prior experience in a lead admission role.
  • University Enterprise Resource Planning System experience,
    preferably SLATE

Salaries for new hires at Roger Williams University usually fall within
the minimum and midpoint salary ranges.
$74,735 – $85,000
