About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Learning Solutions has strong technical and project management skills and is responsible for executing the Digital and Enterprise Learning team’s quality assurance process; maintaining our courses; and testing and implementing new technologies that will help us deliver innovative, personalized, and experiential opportunities.

At their core, the ideal candidate cares deeply about pedagogy and learning and will be able to think strategically and move ideas quickly into implementation. This role will ensure continuity and operational excellence as products move through the Quality Assurance phase, and then to the maintenance and “end of life” stages.

The person in this role will develop and implement strategies and procedures to help scale and maximize efficiency, while retaining quality. They will develop processes and workflows with the determination and drive for dealing with new challenges in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.

The ideal candidate is an expert in the latest digital technologies and possesses strong leadership, collaboration, and creative skills to support an interdisciplinary team of designers in the Digital and Enterprise Learning team. In addition, the person in this role will collaborate across other teams with and beyond Northeastern University’s Experiential Digital Global Education unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Team Management, Strategy, & Leadership –

Manage a team of Learning Solutions Architects and designers to scale our maintenance work and digital tool integration while delivering the highest quality, innovative products. Act at the leadership level as a liaison with partners, colleges, and other teams such to support processes and practices to ensure products are high quality and meet the needs of our users. Engage in strategic planning and present and interact with senior leaders and high level stakeholders.

Quality Assurance –

Execute a system of quality assurance (QA) for course preparation and delivery logistics. Coordinate all elements of quality assurance. Manage multiple, concurrent projects and workflows, ensuring efficiency and clear communication across EDGE teams. Provide the leadership, inspiration and innovative creative thinking to deliver exceptional work throughout the entire quality assurance process.

Strategic Integration of Technology & Professional Development –

Work closely with the learning design team to translate designs into learning platforms. Teach the learning design team how to improve the design and layout of course and learning experience builds. Proposes new creative solutions for products work closely with the Digital Transformation team and Academic Technologies to ensure the team has access to cutting edge educational tools and ensure they are incorporated appropriately and maintained. Provide professional development on the use and maintenance of all new technologies and software.

Course Maintenance –

Oversee course maintenance policies to ensure curricular integrity and consistency. Ensure that all EDGE designed courses have maintenance plans in place that can be executed upon by our partners. Lead the team in establishing and maintaining documentation/records related to courses which are revised, including syllabi, course maintenance changes, course files, and course revision documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree (advanced degree in instructional design, project management, educational technology or related field preferred).
  • Minimum of four years of experience with increasing management responsibilities with a track record of planning and executing successful product lifecycle projects.
  • Knowledge of higher education academic and financial operations, as well as technical infrastructure at the university preferred.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and academic assessment. Experience with one or more learning management systems as well as common software used in the design and development of distance learning courses. Ability to troubleshoot basic educational technology issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of trends in higher education, such as distance learning and faculty development. Knowledge of online adult education needs and familiarity with current trends in the field of online education and educational pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, entrepreneurial skills, conflict resolution skills, project management skills, organizational skills, ability to coordinate and manage diverse groups, including the ability to collaborate across networks and work effectively in virtual teams.
  • Demonstrated pedagogical and practical understanding of how technology can enhance teaching and learning. Knowledgeable of the latest technologies, tools, and strategies available as well as trends and innovations in the field. Demonstrated success in research and planning for instructional technology needs in higher education.
  • Experienced in software development and/or product design.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to solve problems and adapt to outside factors; Able to think ideas through before acting, considering all possible outcomes and areas for improvement. Ability to be flexible and creative when faced with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated values of excellence, respect, integrity, stewardship, community and personal development.
  • Able to work strategically with many constituencies, peers, faculty, students, campus administrators and leadership.
  • Leadership abilities in training, mentoring and coaching team members both familiar and unfamiliar with new educational tools. Able to identify appropriate training and mentoring plans for learning design staff.
