Job Description

Job Summary:

The inaugural Director of the Student Success
Center reports to the Dean of University Library and Learning Resources and is responsible for the overall direction of the Center including
planning and development, staff supervision, procurement of appropriate resources, and oversight of all services provided to students within
the Student Success Center. A great candidate will exercise strong leadership, as well as supervisory and technical skills that create an
appropriate learning environment for students and staff. They will work collaboratively within the West Liberty University community to
provide leadership, facilitation, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive array of support services designed to ensure meaningful
access and retention for all students. Responsibilities will include budgeting, oversight, and evaluation of staff, facilities, equipment,
staffing, and short and long-term planning for the Student Success Center.

Essential
Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the daily, weekly, and annual operations of all components within the
    Center
  • Begins a program of intrusive advising for identified high-risk students
  • Responds to department inquiries from
    students and peer professionals
  • Coordinates office coverage
  • Coordinates small group tutoring sessions
  • Promotes
    all services within the Center
  • Coordinates the seasonal operations of the Center
  • Conducts the interviewing and hiring of
    peer content tutors every semester
  • Supervises the training of peer content tutors in accordance with best practices
  • Interviews, hires, and trains team members
  • Coordinates the schedule for all employees, Graduate Assistants, and peer content
    tutors
  • Compiles data for semester and end-of-year assessment and reports
  • Creates and administers student surveys every
    semester/year for the Center
  • Plans regular programming and team building events for tutors
  • Designs and facilitates
    learning and writing workshops for students
  • Trains and supervises all team members to ensure effective customer service and
    professional development
  • Assists with onboarding new peer and professional tutors every semester by creating and executing
    orientation training on the scheduling system and the common policies and procedures of the Center

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
    and guidelines related to services for persons with disabilities is required
  • Knowledge of best practices and research related to
    retention, persistence, and academic support of high-risk students is required
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and
    development is required
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills, along with strong teamwork, emotional
    intelligence, and leadership skillsare required
  • Familiarity with learning center philosophy, pedagogy, and theory/applied knowledge
    is preferred
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with TRIO Programs is preferred


Education:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field, from an
    accredited institution is required

Work Experience:

  • At least 3 years full-time experience in student success to include leadership experience in a supervisory role, and previous
    budgeting experience is required
  • At least 5 years full-time experience in student success to include leadership experience in a
    supervisory role, and previous budgeting experience is preferred
  • Experience with intrusive advising, tutoring, testing, academic
    support, and/or disability services is strongly preferred
