Job Summary
The director will be primarily responsible for the management and operation of the
centralized undergraduate Academic Advising Center as part of a team of professionals, providing direction and advocacy for academic
advising strategies related to student success and helping to foster cross-campus communication and collaboration for academic advising,
including working with academic departments, faculty advisors, and academic support units.
This position reports to the Dean of
Student Success who serves under the leadership of the Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Under the
umbrella of the Office of Student Success (OSS) within the Division of Student Affairs (DOSA), this position is one of seven directors
reporting to the Dean of Student Success, collectively representing the range of departments comprising the OSS at CSU.

Description
* Provide vision, leadership and oversight for the Academic Advising Center and its intervention programs.
*
Direct supervision of professional undergraduate advisors and conduct performance reviews.
* Oversee development and delivery of training
programs for professional advisors, faculty advisors, and/or student employees.
* Develop and facilitate a student tracking and
monitoring system to be used by members of the advising team.
* Lead development of innovative strategies utilizing new technologies to
provide the highest level of student contact and service to contribute to the university’s student success goals.
* Develop and oversee
standardized data reporting and assessment strategies that address evaluation of practices and programs.
* Understand, troubleshoot, and
train on technical aspects of a coaching model such as: registration, SAP appeals, CRM (student case management system).
* Demonstrate
strong commitment to student development and success through advocacy, positive attitude, adaptability, approachability, problem solving,
and support.
* Demonstrate developmental academic advising that assists students in clarifying personal and academic career goals using
appropriate student development, human development, and student learning theories.
* Assist advisors with helping students interpret and
understand placement scores, program curricula, and pre-requisites, etc.
* Assist advisors with helping students gain a basic
understanding of the registration process and other tasks which need to be completed prior to the beginning of each semester.
* Maintain
current knowledge of the institution’s academic programs, curriculum, practices, and academic and student policies.
* Coordinate with
other Student Affairs and Academic Affairs areas to ensure accuracy of advising materials distributed to students, faculty, and staff.

Collaborate with the Student Affairs and the Offices of Enrollment Management, Registrar, and Financial Aid in new student activities and
other specialty programs to facilitate recruitment and enrollment.
* Collaborative with the Faculty Advisor Liaison to manage advising
caseloads throughout the university in a manner that promotes retention, persistence, and student success through proactive interactions and
interventions.
* Assess workflow priorities and delegate work assignments accordingly and review work of staff to ensure quality,
timeliness, and accuracy.
* Develop and implement proactive and timely communication plans, including student outreach, referrals, and
interventions, as well as faculty and staff engagement in the academic advising process.
* Ensure adherence to university policies and
procedures and maintain compliance with federal and state regulations.
* Maintain academic advising and other student records in
compliance with University and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
* Coordinate with IT for the provision of
appropriate tools and training on systems needed for advising (Banner, CSU express, etc.)
* Develop and maintain appropriate
relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community partners.
* Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment
in which all people are valued, supported, and respected.
* Actively participate in professional development opportunities and
professional organizations, as well as university-wide committees, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications
* A minimum of five years of experience in academic advising and student success in higher education is
required.
* Experience in data management and analytics for student retention.
* A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
* A
minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, counseling, social work, or related discipline is
required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, social skills, and
critical thinking and listening skills to provide an excellent service experience to students.
* Computer/technology skills to conduct
academic advising duties and create/process documents.
* Attention to detail, ability to organize and prioritize work, and
understand/interpret policies and procedures.
* Ability to collaborate with others, be flexible and adaptive, and handle numerous tasks
with frequent interruptions.

- This position requires working on a computer and sitting for extended periods of time, as well as walking across
campus to various departments and may involve stairs or elevators. - This is an in-person position on CSU’s campus
located at 9501 S. King Drive Avenue, housed within the Cordell Reed Student Union Building.
