Essential Job Duties:
The Director will provide service and leadership to both University Advising and Outreach and Exploratory Studies.
This role is responsible for the following:
- Advising Supervision and Structure: University Advising and Outreach (UAO) provides a service to the university in serving students, faculty and the administration regarding best practices in academic advising and support for the university. The function of UAO is to promote the growth of students as they develop educational plans and choose career and life goals.
- Teaching: The Director will supervise the overall development and assignments for the sections of USC taught by the academic advisors. The director will ensure that the curriculum is appropriate and meets the needs of today’s learners.
- Programming: The Director will provide oversight to the programming and outreach that occurs with the university, in ensuring that the students and advisors are engaged and involved in trends and policies that may impact their matriculation and persistence to graduation.
- Advising Training: The Director will ensure that university-wide training is ongoing and available to meet the needs of academic advisors, regardless of their college. They will ensure that best practices and NACADA Standards are being incorporated into these sessions, while using data to inform the content and the scope of the training.
- Assessment: The Director will ensure the completion of all data and assessment reporting required for program review and planning for continuous improvement
- University Service: The Director will serve on committees within DASA and the Advising community. Support University College initiatives as needed.
- Provide necessary data and other critical information to inform the AVCAD of barriers in policy, processes or procedures that impact student success
- Provide leadership as needed with the direction of the AVCAD with each University-wide Academic Advising Committee
- Provide oversight and management of the AAPS Budget
- Maintain student contact with the expectation of having a minimal caseload of students to advise directly
- Serve as a member of University College Senior Leadership Team and the DASA Leadership Team
- Other duties as assigned by the AVCAD in DASA

Minimum Experience/Education:
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience extracting, analyzing, and compiling data using student information systems. High level of initiative, attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience in academic advising and student support.
- Commitment to empathy and the acknowledgement of the human experience for students, staff, and faculty at the university.
- Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with constituents at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Comfortable summarizing, compiling, and interpreting student data and reports.
- Ability to work with confidential material and sensitive matters with integrity, diplomacy and discretion.
- Ability to collaborate with a broad range of student support professionals and leaders to inform a more integrated approach to student retention, support and success
- Demonstrated commitment to student success with experience understanding a broad range of issues facing today’s students to include underrepresented and/or traditionally underserved students.
- Willingness to work a flexible and extended schedule including weekends and evenings when needed.
