Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: This  full-time position works a 10 month schedule during the year. Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Success and Partnerships and in collaboration with Quincy Public Schools, the ECHS Academic Coach for Mathematics/Sciences will work directly with Quincy’s ECHS students to help them develop the skills they will need to be successful in high school, college, and beyond. The ECHS Academic Coach will act as a program resource, assist students as they prepare for and apply to colleges, and plan their next steps after high school. They will be invested in the success of their students, and have a comprehensive understanding of developmental processes, post-secondary education, student resources and serve as an expert in English/Humanities content areas. Please note that this position is contingent on grant funding.    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with ECHS College Transition Coaches and ECHS Guidance Counselors to provide all ECHS students with academic support related to Mathematics and the Sciences.
  • Work alongside the ECHS College Transition Coaches during the ECHS Support Blocks to ensure that all students are receiving academic assistance for their courses.
  • Visit and support both students and instructors in the ECHS Mathematics and Science courses.
  • Assist ECHS Mathematics and Sciences instructors, as needed, with course lessons, activities, and facilitation.
  • Assist ECHS students in setting academic and career goals through the ECHS Pathway teaching and learning model.
  • Help students to develop study habits and other college-readiness skills to ensure their success.
  • Track and analyze student progress as it relates to Mathematics and the Sciences, as well as towards each student’s individual goals.
  • Collaborate with Quincy College and Quincy Public Schools to ensure that there is streamlined and timely communication related to academic coaching services and student progress.
  • Develop creative ways to promote the academic coaching services to all ECHS students, instructors, and support staff. This can include, but   not limited to, drop in hours and additional services outside of the ECHS Support Block.
  • Attend all ECHS Support Team staff meetings, as well as other small group meetings as needed.
  • Identify high need students who will benefit from the academic support as it relates to their ECHS Pathway experience.
  • Provide regular feedback and updates to the ECHS Support Team and ECHS instructors regarding student progress as it relates to Mathematics/Sciences.
  • ECHS summer program planning to include student support and curriculum planning.
  • Provide referral services based upon individualized student needs.

Other:

  • Assist with other ECHS Pathway tasks as needed.
  • Participate in college committees as assigned.      
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework. Including but not limited to:

Requirements:

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field required. Experience working in the K-12, college setting, and/or tutoring strongly preferred.  

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated interest and dedication to working with a diverse student body; demonstrated ability to think creatively to develop services; excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as organizational skills are required. Analytical, collaborative, and motivational skills are required, as well as strong computer and communication skills. Familiarity with the college admissions process, financial aid, and college students support strongly preferred.
