Position Primary
Purpose and General Responsibilities
Purpose of the Position: The purpose of the Education Coordinator for Diversity,
Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is to assist in the Center’s goal of advancing a culture of inclusion and innovation by improving diversity,
equity and inclusion within the Massey Cancer Center. This position will assist in achieving cancer equity through care, research and
prevention. Under the supervision of the Operations Director of DEI this position will facilitate trainings and develop DEI programming, as
well as developing and conducting research projects, including data analysis at Massey Cancer Center. The Education Coordinator will
collaborate with the Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (CRTEC), Massey leadership and Community, Outreach and Engagement
office (COE). The Education Coordinator will assist the Director of DEI with key priorities such as project management for events and
related programming, managing, and maintaining ODEI databases and ensure the development of diverse faculty, staff, students/trainees and
leadership within MCC, reflective of the catchment-area.
Position Responsibilities
The over-arching
responsibilities for this position include the following:
- Works with the Director to provide subject matter expertise in the
creation of content for training, courses and instruction sessions. - Develops innovative educational framework for programming,
seminars, conferences and staff/faculty retreats. - Collaborate with the CRTEC team with recruiting various academic level students
to participate in summer programs. - Assists Associate Director of DEI with analyzing exit interview surveys for staff and faculty
and develop action plans based on the survey analysis. - Leads DEI learning sessions and develops presentations for diverse
audiences. - Maintains educational materials to support on-going learning, skill building and culture change strategies, tailored to
specific roles within Massey Cancer Center. - Sustains consistent forms of communication about the programming and professional
development opportunities offered by VCU and Massey, including websites content, marketing materials and direct email communications. - Provides administrative support to the Assistant Director and Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
- Collaborates
with the COE to build relationships with under-represented communities (including colleges and Universities) and establish trust and
understanding. - Manages and updates a knowledge base of best practices and available resources for cultural competence and equity.
- Serves as resource for internal and external issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Helps create a mechanism
for engagement (feedback, discussion, and promoting open communication) within the ODEI function and across the Center. This may include
survey creation, leveraging digital tools, or hosting focus groups and listening sessions. - Curates and maintains relevant ODEI
standard operating procedures. - Assesses urgency of requests, connects people to appropriate resources, and manages information flow
in a timely manner. - Serves as writer, copyeditor, and proofreader for DEI documents, emails, survey reports, and others as
needed.
Minimum Hiring Standards
- Massey Cancer Center supports a diverse faculty, staff, and

environment. - Bachelors Degree in human resource management, business administration, psychology, organizational development or
other related field. - Two or more years of experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in an organization.
- Understand, be sensitive to, and respect the diverse socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities, and
sexual orientation of employees, and community.
Preferred Hiring Standards
- Proven experience in
leading successful DEI programs in academia, healthcare, private or public sector. - Proven ability to collaborate and partner across
a large, matrixed organizations. - Analyzing and making sound recommendations on complex management and administrative issues,
including identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and making recommendations in support of
goals. - Presentation development and design skills, experience with PowerPoint and visual storytelling; Photoshop or other design
tools a plus. - Writing, editing and storytelling skills – engaging with diverse audiences gained through internal and/or external
communications and marketing experience is strongly desired. Community engagement experience is a plus. - Previous experience working
at a Cancer Center.
Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000
