Job Title: Executive Director IACH Job Family: Management Full-Time/Part-Time: Full time Compensation Grade: MP Pay Type: Salary Department: Provost Office Job Summary: The Executive Director of The Institute for the Advancement of Community Health will provide vision and leadership for the Institute and work collaboratively to guide its strategic direction and coordinate its activities and resources. Job Description: The Institute for the Advancement of Community Health (IACH) is uniquely positioned to convene academics, practitioners, and medical professionals to address community health issues with applied, professional focus. The IACH facilitates high-impact student experiences and community-engaged research, focusing on building partnerships in education and research and championing key community programs, with a commitment to health equity, justice, and diversity. Our community research provides a real-life learning lab for our students, while also advancing the implementation of evidence-based strategies with a focus on measurable outcomes to reduce health disparities in our community. Community Health is a collaborative enterprise that uses evidence-based strategies and other approaches to engage with communities to optimize health and quality of life for all. This work is best accomplished through new approaches and collaborations with our on-campus and off-campus stakeholders Furman University Founded in 1826, Furman University is the oldest private university in South Carolina and is among the 75 oldest institutions of higher education in operation nationally today. IACH is one of the university’s four distinct institutes , where students gain valuable real-world experience in community initiatives, research, outreach and more. Students work hand-in-hand with faculty and staff experts who are connected locally, nationally, and internationally. The work of IACH contributes to Furman’s innovative approach to undergraduate educa tion while leading efforts to address community health challenges. Primary Responsibilities: Sets and articulates the strategic plan for the IACH, aligned with the mission and vision, ensuring synergy and integration across Institute activities including the efforts of the Education and Community Action divisions as well as IACH sponsored events. Establishes and implements IACH’s goals and priorities to ensure alignment with institutional goals and priorities, including raising the academic profile and prestige of the university. Assesses and evaluates progress toward identified goals to define success for IACH. Positions IACH/FU as a thought leader in community health. Articulates and represents the discipline of community health, its fit with Furman’s liberal arts tradition and The Furman Advantage, to campus, university and community constituencies to elevate and distinguish Furman’s contributions in the community health sector. Oversees the operating budget and funding sources for the IACH and is accountable for staffing, quality of service, and the overall performance of the IACH. Responsible for development of new revenue generation and does so in consultation and coordination with Director of Finance and Revenue Strategy. Builds a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration for the IACH team consistent with IACH’s approach to community health. Supports the Community Action division and the research, evaluation and program implementation work of that division, to provide and build evaluation capacity for collaborative projects aimed to address health inequities for under-resourced populations. Supports the Education division, and the campus and community-based engaged learning programs and experiences run by that division, to enhance, extend and complement the classroom education for Furman undergraduate and graduate students interested in health, community health and healthcare. Supports the Program Director for the Master of Science in Community Engaged Medicine program, working in partnership with the Assistant Provost for Graduate Program Initiatives and the Dean of Faculty around shared resources and collaborations to promote program and IACH success. Provides vision for IACH’s annual Community Health Forum and supports Administrative Assistant, Marketing & Communication Coordinator, and other team members as needed, to execute event. Develops event theme and agenda to position the event to increase IACH/FU prestige as well as showcase IACH’s role as a thought leader and convener. Event will consider a current topic in the community health field with action-oriented content and activities. Represents the IACH at functions, both on and off campus, acting as an ambassador of the IACH and the university. Represents the IACH in Academic Affairs division activities and collaborates with the other Institutes (i.e., Riley Institute, Shi Institute and Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship) as well as other partners in revenue generating ecosystem, other centers and academic partners. Builds partnerships with a breadth of community health organizations (including hospital systems, community-based organizations, non-profits, and coalitions) to advance the work of IACH. Works with Furman’s Grants and Research Administration to identify and pursue opportunities for external funding to support and maximize these partnerships when appropriate. Works collaboratively with Academic Director of Prisma Partnerships to strengthen the relationship between Prisma and Furman. Provides leadership for the partnership in community health initiatives and processes to maximize opportunities for engaged learning. Supports Academic Director of Prisma Partnerships as needed or requested for matters involving traditional health research, opportunities for faculty engagement and new programs outside of community health. Consults and routes differences or matters needing clarity to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Partners with the Office of Development to share the work of IACH with current and prospective donors toward increasing the number of gifts to support the work of IACH. Collaborates with University Communications team on internal and external communications regarding IACH activities and accomplishments. Supervises and supports the professional development of IACH directors and other direct reports, including completion of annual performance reviews. Participates in professional development opportunities. Reporting Structure: Reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Qualifications:

PhD or terminal degree in community health-related field
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of community health and applied professional health work, preferably including experience in a direct practice capacity
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of community-based and engaged research methodology
Ability to conceptualize, communicate and lead a shared vision in response to needs and opportunities.
Credibility to effectively represent the IACH and the field of community health; well-developed interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse stakeholders and audiences; ability to collaborate with a variety of academic and health professionals
Ability to pursue speaking engagements and thought-leadership activities
History of strong collaboration, navigating complex issues while actively seeking, building and sustaining effective strategic partnerships both internally and externally.
Financial and business management experience with multiple and diverse funding sources including revenue generating programs
Experience with grant development, including partnership building, grant writing and budget formulation
Proven skills and ability to lead a team engaged in a variety of diverse projects while strategically managing priorities and shared mission
