Job Description
Group Midwifery Practice
Danbury, Connecticut, The Danbury Midwifery Group, sole providers of care at Connecticut’s only freestanding birth center, the Connecticut Childbirth & Women’s Center, are looking for a new midwifery partner to join our busy practice. An established CABC accredited center, we have been open since 1997. We are conveniently located directly across the street from Danbury Hospital, a mid-sized community facility with LDRs, in unit anesthesia, an ob/gyn resident teaching program and a Level IIb NICU. We are also credentialed to provide care at Danbury Hospital for those families wanting or requiring hospital birth and have a wonderful relationship with our obstetric care team.
Our full-scope care includes obstetrics as well as gynecology care, family planning and contraception, teen and adolescent care, menopausal care and so much more. We are a cohesive group of midwives who work well together to serve a diverse population . We come from many different backgrounds and welcome getting to know our new midwife partner. We share office and call and encourage each other to find ways to contribute to the practice. We are seeking a midwife partner to join us as we look forward to many more years of caring for women, their families and each other.
We provide an excellent work/life balance with shared calls. Office hours are Monday through Friday. Each midwife generally takes one 24 hour call during that time and is responsible for two office days (one from 8:30am-4:30pm and the other from 8:30am-7:00pm). The remaining two weekdays are days off. Weekend calls are shared and can be either 24 or 48 hours, depending on the needs of the midwife and schedule. Weekend calls are split evenly between the midwives so there is plenty of weekend time off. Vacation time is four weeks a year PLUS a fifth week for continuing education for which a generous stipend is allotted.
Danbury is located within commuting distance of New York City (an hour away by car or train) and within 2.5 hours of Boston. New Haven and Yale University are also within an hour’s drive. The beaches of Long Island Sound, Rhode Island and Cape Cod are close by and skiing in Vermont is also very accessible. Major airports, including LaGuardia and JFK in New York City and Bradley International in Hartford, CT, are all within reasonable driving distance.
Our new midwife partner should be someone who enjoys true midwifery care. Autonomy and the ability to work independently are important as well as the ability to work well with others. Organization and attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and flexibility are required. As an accredited birth center an ability and desire to maintain accreditation and contribute to the accreditation process are mandatory.
Compensation is competitive with salary, bonuses, dental and medical insurance, ability to contribute to a 401K, paid vacation and an annual conference stipend. Our office and call schedule are flexible and geared to a satisfying work/life balance.
Please send a current CV to: cathy.p@ctbirthcenter.com for our immediate consideration.
We encourage all interested candidates to apply; new graduates as well as experienced midwives.
