Job Purpose
The Program Coordinator for Mentoring in the Unity Multicultural Education Center (UMEC) is primarily responsible for overseeing BRIDGE (Building Relationships in Diverse Gonzaga Environments) and manages all the summer orientation sessions. BRIDGE is a first-year mentoring program for students with underrepresented identities (e.g. first-generation, low income, LGBTQ+, students of color, Indigenous students, etc.) that begins with Pre-Orientation the week before fall classes and continues throughout the academic year. This position works collaboratively with faculty and multiple campus departments to provide a holistic network of support that helps recruit and retain a diverse student body aligned with institutional diversity goals.

Function Details
- Support BCORE (student coordinators) in marketing and recruiting around 40 first-year students to participate in BRIDGE.
- Assign BRIDGE participants to mentoring families including two peer mentors, a faculty/staff mentor, and a handful of their peers.
- Help coordinate all logistical aspects of the BRIDGE program, including but not limited to scheduling, room reservations, catering, ordering supplies, budgeting, etc.
- In collaboration with the UMEC professional staff and two undergraduate students, develop/refine the curriculum for the Social Justice Peer Educators and BRIDGE mentor training.
- Work closely with the Office of New Student and Family Programs to communicate with the parents and families of BRIDGE participants and to host a few summer sessions designed for their needs.
- Continue and/or develop campus partnerships with faculty and staff to offer collaborative programs during the summer institute and throughout the academic year.
- Coordinate and publicize community building events, study breaks, and study sessions throughout the academic year.
- Monitor, track, and evaluate contact between BRIDGE participants and their peer mentors, faculty/staff mentors, and peer families.
- Conduct grad checks as well as in-person mid-term and semester-end check-ins with BRIDGE participants.
- Administer and analyze periodic surveys to assess student learning outcomes and programmatic goals and report findings to key stakeholders.

- Assist in tracking scholars’ service hours and leadership experiences, document programmatic activities;
- Collect data that will assist with development of Unity Scholars Program; evaluate and assess programs;
- Coordinate and assist with logistical aspects of Unity Scholars Program development
Other Functions
- The Program Coordinator will support the UMEC programs and services.
- Represent department or division on University-wide committees or projects.
- Deliver department presentations and facilitate training workshops.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current on mentoring underrepresented students and increase cultural fluency.

- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Leadership Studies, or related field.
- Provide undergraduate work experience in supporting and/or advocating for students from historically underrepresented and traditionally marginalized communities and facilitating and training on diversity, equity, and inclusion matters
- Experience in intergroup dialogue theory, peer education and/or residential programming
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and online social networking for marketing and communicating with students in a professional manner.
