DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Division of Global Engagement (GE) advances the University’s teaching, research, and service mission by working collaboratively throughout the institution to promote global engagement and advance campus-wide internationalization by facilitating international mobility for students and faculty. GE serves as the primary unit responsible for improving the international student and scholar experience and engagement on campus, promoting faculty engagement in international initiatives, and developing strategic partnerships abroad. GE interacts with campus leadership on strategic planning and initiatives to elevate the reputation of UCSC globally. GE units include Global Learning, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Global Programming, and Global Initiatives.

JOB SUMMARY
The Outreach Coordinator provides administrative, programmatic, and general advising support for UCSC Global Learning. The incumbent independently advises students on general Global Learning procedures, program options, and requirements. The Outreach Coordinator works independently to oversee Global Learning outreach activities and events, including weekly, quarterly, and yearly recruitment initiatives, including event coordination and promotion. The incumbent identifies and recommends new recruitment strategies to promote Global Learning on the campus, both general and targeted student outreach. The Outreach Coordinator interacts with UC Santa Cruz students, staff, parents, program providers, and the general public on behalf of UCSC Global Learning. They hire, train, and supervise student peer advisors and oversee volunteer student positions. The Outreach Coordinator works with the Global Engagement leadership to recommend changes to policies, practices, and procedures with regard to UCSC Global Learning programs and recruitment.
Providing general advice to students on the full range of Global Learning opportunities, including UCSC, UCEAP, UC, and non-UC programs, the Outreach Coordinator utilizes general knowledge of campus academic departments, colleges, major and degree requirements, to match a student’s interests, academic/linguistic/cultural preparation, and goals to the appropriate Global Learning programs. They provide administrative support to Global Learning in the selection, pre-departure, and re-entry process, maintaining and applying knowledge of campus policies related to global learning program participation. The incumbent coordinates general informational sessions, workshops, events, social media, targeted outreach campaigns, and other marketing initiatives, identifying and actively providing solutions to issues that arise in processes or policies, or in the implementation of events and marketing campaigns.
As UCSC continues to develop faculty-led study abroad programs, exchanges, internships, and other relationships with institutions overseas, Global Learning works directly with faculty, campus departments, and international partners in the development and administrative oversight of these opportunities. The Outreach Coordinator will play an important role in the promotion of these programs, support academic integration initiatives, and provide administrative support to program development and management.
The Outreach Coordinator is expected to participate in divisional initiatives and contribute to improving work processes within Global Engagement to achieve the divisional goals and objectives.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $61,500 – $70,900/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES
40% – Outreach and Program Support
- Plans and implements weekly, quarterly, and annual outreach and recruitment activities.
- Manages the calendar of events and oversees logistical arrangements of all events.
- Helps identify barriers to global learning participation and works with the Global Learning Director to develop strategies to improve and develop new outreach initiatives.
- Coordinates production and distribution of study abroad marketing collateral.
- Monitors marketing collateral and webpages for accuracy.
- Manages annual Global Learning Fair, Summer Opportunities Fair, and other promotional and tabling events. Coordinates Global Learning participation in Welcome Week, campus and department fall orientations, International Education Week, summer orientations, and other campus events throughout the year.
- Monitors and maintains social media accounts and monthly Global Learning newsletter. Manages event creation, registration, and follow-up in the Global Learning portal.
- Provides logistical support for other Global Learning outreach and events, compiles and reports on event data.
- Assists with and develops new outreach efforts to increase Global Learning participation, including working with departments, colleges, resource centers, and other campus units.
- Support academic integration efforts through college and department-specific outreach and collaboration, developing returnee profiles, GE and departmental pre-approved course lists, and maintaining major advising webpages.
- Oversees student peer advisor and student volunteer outreach activities as well as coordinates returnee participation at recruitment events and pre-departure orientations.
- Advises the Global Learning Director on campus trends and issues relating to Global Learning participation and outreach.
40% – General Advising
- Provides general advising primarily to prospective students, but also selected, abroad, and returned study abroad/away students.
- Advises prospective applicants on study abroad program options, requirements, and application process, including necessary academic preparation and appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant’s goals.
- Advises students on external scholarship funding for study abroad.
- Provides guidance and connects students to appropriate advisors and/or resources on all aspects of their international academic experience, including campus, college, and/or department requirements; academic and cultural preparedness, language preparation, course articulation, finances, logistical support, extracurricular pursuits, eligibility, maturity, returnee reentry and readjustment, mental and physical health needs while abroad, and personal issues related to studying abroad.
- Supports Global Learning in the design and implementation of pre-departure orientations and other workshops/presentations to support student success while abroad.
- Supports Global Learning in facilitating and developing returnee programming.
- Manages the student employee peer advisor program and weekly drop-in advising.
- Monitors and responds to the Global Learning general email daily.
- Provides advice to Global Learning Director to improve general advising, resources, and the student experience.
15% – Administrative Support
- Hires, trains, and supervises student peer advising team.
- Conducts regular student-employee staff meetings and maintains procedural manuals. Works with the Global Learning team to coordinate mass communications from UCSC
- Global Learning to students, including emails to prospective students, current participants, and returnees as appropriate, including deadline, scholarship, and event notifications.
- Assist UCSC Global Learning with administrative procedures, including data collection, application processing, participant reporting to campus units, placeholder registration, tracking event attendance, and scholarship application processing.
- Under the direction of the Global Learning Director, extract data reports from and ensures data integrity in the Global Learning Portal.
- Recommend solutions and potential policy or procedural changes.
5% – Divisional Support
- Serves as unit liaison with other campus units.
- Represents the Global Learning unit at the campus, system-wide or national meetings as needed.
- Supports and contributes to the overall goals of the Division as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Demonstrated knowledge of study abroad programs and the student international experience.
- Prior experience and successful skills in event management and outreach.
- Demonstrated skills in judgment and decision-making, problem-solving, identifying measures of system or process success, and identifying the actions to improve processes.
- Demonstrated analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Highly effective written communications skills; demonstrated attention to detail.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and successfully work with campus stakeholders.
- Demonstrated multicultural competencies; successful prior experience working with diverse populations.
- Prior experience and demonstrated skill in managing multiple tasks in a high-volume work setting with demanding timeframes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Prior experience in presenting / public speaking in a variety of settings.
- Prior experience in supervising staff/ and or student assistants.
- Prior experience as a study abroad advisor.
- Prior work experience in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of common higher-ed organizational structures and practices in study abroad.
- Prior experience working in database interface tools such as Horizons, Terra Dotta, ViaTRM, or equivalent.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements necessary to move light to moderate objects up to 60 lbs., with or without accommodation.
- Will be required to work a hybrid work schedule, days of the week and number of days to be determined, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
- Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
