Job Purpose

This position
co-coordinates and administers (with similar position in School of Science, Mathematics & Engineering) the College of Charleston’s health
professions advising program for the School of Health Sciences.

Minimum Requirements

A Master’s degree in a
related field (science/health, student services, or counseling). Three to five years of experience in student services or academic advising.
Two or more years in health profession advising. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to
apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to
maintain confidentiality and deal tactfully with students. Self-motivated. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with
others.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Some evening and weekend work will be
required.

Provides individual and group advising to
pre-professional students; facilitates group information sessions; participates and coordinates School of Health Sciences participation in
the new student orientation programs, admissions functions and academic advising.

veterinary medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.). Composes and transmits institutional
letters of recommendation for applicants to professional schools. Maintains associated records.

Activity

Oversight and supervision
for a Peer Mentoring Program designed to extend the outreach of the Pre-health Advising Program within the School of Health
Sciences.

Maintains the website (along with the pre-health professions advisor in the School of Sciences,
Mathematics, and Engineering) for all health professions. Produces informational literature for students and other constituents. Develops
educational programs to introduce students to the health professions.

Activity

Along with the School of Sciences,
Mathematics, and Engineering Pre-Health Professions advisor, works with Career Services, MUSC, and others to develop internship, volunteer,
and networking opportunities for pre-health professions students. Establishes and maintains contacts with various post baccalaureate
professional schools.
