Suffern, New York, The Lab Assistant has knowledge of laboratory practices, specimen integrity & stability, federal and state requirements for laboratory operations, and applicable accreditation standards. Ability to operate laboratory centrifuges, perform a variety of blood collection techniques including venous and capillary collections. RESPONSIBILITIES: Receive specimens, place orders, add test, delete test, spin down, separate and distribute specimens to the proper departments. Prepare specimen to send to reference labs. Answer telephone calls from unit Nurses, Internal/External Physicians, and their concerns regarding specimen problems. Complete all duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: NHA, ASCP or equivalent Experience Preferred: 1 years of phlebotomy experience. EDUCATION: High-school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor degree in Business or IT related field preferred. Other: If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
