Position Grade: 12

Position Summary
The
Office of Education, Applied Cognition Medical Sciences Program is seeking a
skilled individual that will provide, and assist in developing, services and
programs that contribute to academic success. The successful candidate will
focus on helping physician residents and fellows reach their goals of
achieving board certification in a field of medicine, contributing to
departmental programming that helps build connections and achieve academic
success. The Learning Specialist will also collect feedback on
interventions, monitor the impact on resident performance, and make
recommendations for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to the
following:
* Provide one-on-one meetings and support to trainees (residents and
fellows) to improve learning, problem-solving, and test-taking abilities.
* Conduct needs analyses and utilizes performance management data to
identify trainee learning and development needs; recommend and/or design
learning solutions.
* Develop support materials for trainees within their training program.
* Effectively communicate with educators and constituents in both written
and oral formats.
* Interface as the main point of contact for trainees.
* Instructs seminars and provides individual counseling to trainees
preparing for standardized exams such as USMLE Step III, in-training
examinations, and national specialty board examinations.
* Assist and review trainee exams and work products. Help trainees analyze
their performance, identify barriers to academic success, and develop
strategies to optimize academic performance.
* Keep accurate, thorough, up-to-date, accessible records of trainee contacts,
growth, and progress.
* Advise residency and fellowship program directors on integrating
effective support for their trainees in taking national standardized exams
into their curricula.
* Collaborate and build rapport with university faculty, and staff that
facilitate invites and deepens the development and use of the trainee support
services available.

Conditions of Employment

  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

* Designing and teaching trainees success courses and workshops.
* Strong written, verbal, phone, presentation, and communication.
* Organizational and time management abilities
* Ability to work independently as a member of a team
* Critical thinking and decision making

Additional Requirements
Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required, depending on department needs.
Finalists should be prepared to provide official educational transcripts if selected for hire.
