The Payments Association of South Africa (PASA)

PASA – the Payments Association of South Africa – was recognised by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) as the Payment System Management Body (PSMB) of South Africa in 1998. In this role, PASA oversees the function of 18 different payment streams ranging from low value debit card transactions to high value bond exchange payments. We have also implemented several initiatives that have shaped the payments landscape in South Africa, including the Rapid Payments Programme and DebiCheck.The Payments Association of South Africa (PASA) is building its capacity for payments knowledge in the banking and financial services industry. This role will form part of our plan to instil in-depth knowledge of the payments industry on our successful incumbent while adding significant value to the legal department.
Duties:

Shadowing PASA Legal Counsel on all payments matters, including being involved in drafting payment documents, responses and guidance
Studying and/or developing a basic understanding of current (relevant) legislation (e.g. National Payments Systems (NPS) Act, Conduct of Financial Institutions (CoFI) Bill, Banks Act, Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), National Credit Act (NCA), POPIA, etc, as well as PASA Policies and Rules)
Attending all PASA Structure meeting attended by PASA Senior Counsel, including industry meetings and smaller workgroups
Exposure to industry representatives, including regulators
Assisting with general legal matters

Analytical skills

Ability to build and maintain relationships
Presentation skills
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
High level of personal integrity, self-disciplined, and a highly positive attitude.

Requirements:

B.Proc or LLB
Completion of articles will be advantageous
2-3 years of legal experience in financial services
