Suffern, New York, The Librarian is responsible for providing appropriate information and referral services to the professional, technical, educational, administrative and research needs of all medical and hospital staff. This position plans, develops, organizes, and executes all daily operations and services of the Medical Library. In addition, the Medical Staff Librarian performs managerial and administrative activities to support daily activities of the hospital. RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs database searches on request. Counsels’ independent searchers on search strategies and terminology. Obtains requested articles, books, book chapters for patrons and delivers documents as requested in formats indicated (PDF file, physical document, etc. ). Alerts participating users to newly published research in their respective fields/professions or specific topics of interest. Processes and makes readily available all print journals, books, and audio digest CDs. Maintains electronic resources on web gateway pages.
Monitors usage of electronic/print resources. Answers all reference questions. Proctors exams for various staff. Prepares annual budget and completes all processes and tasks related to it. Participates in various committees and community programs. Follows trends in librarianship, library management, library applications and technology. Researches support for TJC, DOH and other surveys. Trouble-shoots and maintains in-library computers. Orders supplies and maintains inventory levels. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: One year of Medical Library experience preferred with appropriate computer skills, inclusive of database (DBS) searching. Education: Master’s degree in Library Science required. Other: If applicable, the individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials. Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
