Hershey Medical Center Location : US:PA:Hershey Work Type : Full Time FTE : 1. 00 Shift : Day Hours : 8:00a – 4:30p SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for the day to day management of the clinical engineering department within a hospital. Manage the preventive maintenance, repair, projects, and other functions of a section within the department/hospital. Participate in local hospital committee meetings, meet with clinical managers in other departments to discuss equipment issues, and ensure that the medical equipment being serviced by the section is available for safe and efficient patient use at all times. Responsible for fiscal and personnel management.  Responsibilities: Set and monitor PM schedules and work prioritizations for section. Ensure the equipment program within the section meets all regulatory standards. Hold staff accountable to work productivity and standards.   Responsible for hiring, firing, disciplinary actions and performance management.

  Prepare and monitor the budget Prepare monthly report updates: Review all work assigned to the section by performing spot checks on equipment service reports, surveying work spaces and client department areas, and reviewing computer reports, meetings, and data analysis.   Review maintenance contracts and hold vendors accountable to terms and conditions.   Manage projects by obtaining quotes, placing orders, organizing materials and resources, and keeping track of labor.   Ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.   Identify continuous improvement opportunities at a department level and may take action within the scope of this role to maximize organization’s effectiveness.   Perform pre-purchase evaluations of medical equipment. Review and develop RFPs for equipment purchases.   Meet with clinical management to discuss and resolve equipment issues. This may include project improvement work with other departments.   Provide training, skills and competencies building, and development for the technical staff through attendance at manufacturer’s training schools, training schools brought in house, and other formal or informal lectures and sessions.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering Technology or a related field plus a minimum seven years in the Biomedical Engineering field required or an equivalent combination of education and experience required 3-5 years’ experience in management position required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Comprehensive understanding of safety issues surrounding medical equipment Comprehensive understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues. Ability to apply advanced safety concepts to work and patient care environment and identify future possible issues Highly familiar with the operations and environment that they support (hospital, clinic, etc. ) Highly experienced in using computer programs to document and track work completed. Can run reports and navigate through equipment database to find information Highly experienced in using teamwork to facilitate work goals. Can act as primary liaison with other support services departments such as IT and Facilities to resolve issues  Ability to communicate effectively to provide information succinctly to groups or individuals. Ability to communicate in a focused and compelling way to drive others thoughts and actions Working knowledge of project management terms and methods PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree preferred Certification preferred This job description is a general outline of duties performed and is not to be misconstrued as encompassing all duties performed within the position.
