POSITION: Manager of Diversity, Belonging & University Training
DEPARTMENT: Office of Student Affairs & Office of Human Resources
REPORTS TO: Vice President & Dean of Students; and Vice President of Human Resources
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The role provides support and resources to students and University departments to build diverse, inclusive communities on campus and to engage productively with Pittsburgh’s multi-faceted society. The role provides training and fosters innovative programming for university constituencies including faculty, staff, and students on topics of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging; facilitates opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage with community partners; and supports efforts to build sustainable structures that reflect the University’s mission, vision, and values.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, 2-4 years of relevant work experience, or combination of education and relevant experience
- Master’s degree in Education, Student Affairs, or related field is a plus
- Deep understanding of contemporary diversity related concepts (equity, inclusion, belonging, minoritized communities, social justice, power, and privilege)
- Demonstrated skill for program development and execution.
- Ability to successfully perform group facilitations and trainings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of available university and community resources.
- Strong organization, planning, analytic, and problem resolution abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle confidential issues and maintain confidentiality.
- The ability to assess the needs of the students, staff and faculty, to provide intentional, data informed programs and educational/professional development opportunities.
DUTIES:
- Assist and provide training and educational programs for the University community related to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging (DEIB) and professional development in consultation with university partners. (55%)
- Facilitate educational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to increase understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) issues and/or provide training on these issues directly or in partnership with third party vendors.
- Collaborate with various constituencies on campus to ensure students, faculty, and staff are appropriately trained and supported both in DEIB efforts and professional development.
- Provide training to peer-educators and assist with supervision of the peer-education program.
- Serve as a member of committees that serve the central purpose of addressing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging issues on campus.
- Train to conduct or facilitate a mediation process for student issues
2. Assist the University in assessing and documenting campus climate through forums with faculty, staff, and students. (10%)
3. Support and participate in new/transfer student orientation (10%)
4. Advise senior leaders on current trends in DEIB research and best practices (10%)
5. Facilitate relationships with external partners to advance University goals and to provide on- and off-campus opportunities for the University community. (15%)
- Assist with writing grant proposals in the area of DEIB at the state and federal level.
- Partner with external corporate entities (for profit and non-profit) to support innovative projects for DEIB and professional development.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.
