Job Description

MARK R. EPSTEIN (CLASS OF 1963)
DIRECTOR
, MIT Museum, to serve as the head of the Museum and provide intellectual
leadership in all aspects of its work. Will act as the face of the Museum and connect with industry and community leaders to bring in new
funding and fresh ideas.  Accessibility and outreach will be top priorities as the next director takes on the challenge of creating bold and
visionary strategic plans for what is essentially a brand-new museum.  The position offers an opportunity to be an imaginative leader and a
champion for staff who are eager to grow professionally and are committed to the Museum’s long-term success.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in a
relevant field; ten years’ senior management experience; ability to lead teams and indirectly manage multiple internal/external stakeholder
groups; demonstrated organizational leadership experience in a museum or comparable organization; proficiency developing and implementing
strategic plans advancing the mission/goals of an organization; strong communication skills and ability to represent the Museum
(face-to-face and online) to donors, university constituents, and the wider public; record of advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and
accessibility; ability to model and establish a culture of mutual respect, transparency, accountability, and empowerment; skill with
relationship building and broad network engagement with with a variety of constituencies; understanding of and/or appreciation for the role
of a university museum and its integration with the academic mission of a large private research university; interest in and understanding
of science and technology and its connection to culture and the humanities; and openness and flexibility in considering solutions and
