    Position Summary:
    Seeking a Program Assistant for the McNair Scholars Program. This position is
    a full-time, grant funded position on the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Campus. The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program
    hosted by UAA. The McNair Program serves under-represented student populations in their preparation for and transition to a doctoral program
    enrollment and completion. The McNair Program serves 25 students annually.

    Duties:

    Process applications for
    the McNair Scholars Program, create a record for each applicant in the Student Access database. Verify eligibility and completeness of
    applicant data to determine if selection criteria have been met. Receive and process incoming student contacts, including individual
    advising notes and participation in program activities, transcripts, test results or correspondence and enter into the student database.
    Maintain confidentiality of all student records.Essential

    Build queries and run monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with close
    adherence to internal and federal regulations. Provide statistical management and analysis for use by the director in preparing reports.
    Conduct tracking activities and assist the McNair Program Director with monthly, quarterly, and year-end follow up activities. Provide
    technical support with respect to data entry (advising notes) and retrieval of information (in the form of queries) for biweekly time and
    effort reporting by the program.Essential

    Duties are performed under intermittent supervision; Compute, reconcile, adjust, review,
    audit and enter financial and statistical data to maintain accounting, budgeting, purchasing, travel, payroll records, and reports; utilize
    specialized software and databases to query and maintain data; interpret and apply more complex rules and procedures; apply problem solving,
    research, and analytical skills to systems; procedures, and accounts; summarize and compile data and information; budget operations, budget
    reconciliation, purchase, and travel requisitioning; recordkeeping, soft ledger entries.Essential

    Serve as administrative support to
    the McNair Scholars Program. Answer phones, take messages, disseminate information, screen calls, answer routine inquiries (or refer to
    appropriate staff members), extract information from the Banner system pertaining to student follow-up, maintain student filing system and
    student records, order and maintain inventory of program supplies, property and staff reporting documentation and assist in organizing
    office resources for efficiency in providing service to students. Assist McNair Program Director in event coordination (lunches, seminars,
    summer research programs, conference trips). Coordinate the hiring and orientation of academic tutors. Assist in facilitation of McNair
    program events.Essential

    Seeking a Program Assistant for the McNair Scholars Program. This position is a full-time position on the
    University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Campus, contingent upon funding available. The McNair Program serves under-represented student
    populations in their preparation for and transition to a doctoral program enrollment and completion.  The McNair Program serves 25 students
    annually. Under the supervision of the McNair Scholars Program Director, the Program Assistant is responsible for maintaining essential
    office functions to ensure compliance with the U.S. Department of Education and UAA policies and regulations, maintain all participant
    records; is responsible for monthly fiscal monitoring and reporting; and will support the program with event coordination.


    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    This position requires the following:

    experience working with diverse student populations, specifically low-income and first-generation college students.
    * Proficient in Word,
    Excel, and database platforms.
    * Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently.
    * Ability to manage multiple
    projects.
    * Enthusiastic and energetic
    * Willingness to assist in creating and managing the McNair Program website.

    Preferred Experience & Education:

    * Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Management, Education or related
    field
    * Experience working in TRIO Programs and/or a background similar to that of the target population.
    * Understand issues
    confronting low-income and/or first-generation college students.
    * Experience in helping others navigate how and what resources to use to
    achieve their personal and professional goals.
    * Experience working with high school and/or college students and their
    parents/families.
    * Experience working with Banner.
    * Bilingual

    Required Experience & Education:

    * Minimum 2 years of experience working in an office setting providing administrative support.
    * Earned bachelor’s degree, graduate
    student preferred.
    * Unrestricted Alaska Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment and a good driving record.

    Salary Information:

    This is a full-time, 12-month, term-funded, non-exempt staff position complete with both a
    competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 76, based on
    education and experience.
