OVERVIEW
We are seeking a transformational leader who will bring strong medical, management and performance leadership, who will champion our culture of trust, creativity, and commitment to the critical work of this agency and those it serves.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services is charged with serving and protecting the public by providing control, humane care and program opportunities for those individuals placed in its custody and supervision and facilitating their return to society as responsible persons. Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) operates 9 institutions housing approximately 5,500 inmates statewide, including education, health and adult parole and community programs. The Medical Director oversees a $65M comprehensive program of medical, dental, optometry, mental health, substance abuse disorder, sex offense treatment and social work services, with a staff of 168 and numerous contracted providers.

CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES
This search is underway at a key inflection point. Governor Pillen recently appointed Rob Jeffreys, a national corrections leader, and former Illinois Corrections Director, as agency Director. Director Jeffreys has a mandate to innovate, to strengthen the performance of this system and to build a strong team.
The design and construction of a new state penitentiary is likely to be a major initiative under this administration. This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape a model health program. A Medical Director who is a strategic leader and innovator will be a key member of the agency leadership team and will be empowered to organize and lead this initiative.

Stimulate and strengthen professional growth and teamwork, with a systems approach.
Engage the Medical team and medical providers in shaping and executing strategies for innovation and performance improvement.
Draw on the best practices and innovations to be found locally and nationally.
Maintain transparency in how we work with policy makers, vendors, and advocates.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a Medical Director who has an unswerving commitment to bettering the lives of the citizens of Nebraska, and those we serve. Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills are critical to success in this position. The successful candidate should have a proven ability to encourage teamwork, professionalism, and innovation. Substantive experience in the oversight or management of contemporary medical programs is key.
The Director must be a licensed physician and demonstrate familiarity with the principles of quality assurance and internal credentialing procedures.
