We are recruiting for a Blood Bank Medical Laboratory Supervisor to supervise the daily activities of the Cecil County Campus Laboratory to include Medical Laboratory Scientists and Specimen Processing Technicians. In this position, you will ensure the safe, accurate and timely performance of efficient laboratory testing. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Monitors workflow and makes changes to ensure the delivery of quality laboratory services and to meet committed turnaround times for the Hematology, Urine and Coags section Develops schedules and daily work assignments to ensure effective utilization of caregivers Communicates pertinent laboratory information to laboratory caregivers Evaluates caregivers in accordance with defined standards of performance Implements and supervises appropriate safety precautions and addresses all safety-related issues. Ensures all safety-related training is completed. Performs coaching and disciplinary actions Holds regular staff meetings as advised by section manager Reviews time and attendance to verify hours worked and submits for approval Assists with resolution of any payroll-related problems Reviews and validates abnormal laboratory test results, assessing plausibility of results through correlation of data with common physiological conditions Investigates all Report2Learn, Patient and Physician complaints Assists in updating and writing procedures.
Researches new procedures under Section Manager, Section Chiefs, Technical Specialists and Clinical Biochemist Reviews quality control data and consults with respective technical specialists, clinical biochemist, section chiefs and QC coordinators on any unacceptable trends Maintains and monitors a comprehensive quality control program for reagents and equipment Assures that QC is documented accurately, and corrective actions are appropriate Implements, and monitors an appropriate system for specimen identification, retention and retrieval Assists section manager in the interview process of employment candidates Supports clinical instructors, phlebotomy and technical specialists, providing orientation of new personnel Coordinates scheduling changes and facilitates the effective completion of orientation and training Assists in ordering supplies Ability to perform all requirements of MLS I and IIs and maintains technical proficiency of test systems Education and experience requirements: Bachelors of Science in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science; or equivalent BS degree which requires completion of clinical rotations through an approved education program ASCP certification At least four years of clinical medical technology laboratory science experience in Blood Bank At least one-year supervisory experience Specialist in Blood Bank ASCP Certification preferred, eligibility required ( BS with 3 years of BB testing experience in the past 6 years) Knowledge of immunohematology principles and techniques Knowledge of quality assurance principles and techniques Knowledge of AABB, FDA, and CAP regulations. Knowledge of NCCLS procedure requirements.
